I had this image featured over at , but it has since been removed from the gallery since it had plant life in it. I was fine with that decision, but notice that there's now an image with a plant in it. Interesting....

Thank you!

One of my all-time favorites. Taken with the much-maligned kit lens in poor lighting. I think it did a wonderful job!

Aahh! Bloody awesome picture. I love the symmetry and neutral tones of the wall, and then the organic disarray of the fern and it's brighter color! very very nice +fav

Wow, I saw this as a new submission from the digital rebels club. The S caught my attention right away, and then the little green on a sea of stone. Great composition and subject matter!

I'm glad you like it! The flow caught my eye immediately. This was the first shot of many, but turned out to be the best. Probably because I didn't think about it too much.

That happens to me a lot. If I try hard to pose something, then I expect something out of it. If I just snap a few pictures, sometimes I am blown away by chance

What a neat idea, to switch it to landscape. I had not thought of that and gave it a try. Interesting view for me, since I know and remember it as being portrait. Thanks for the idea. It was fun!

It's funny to walk along this wall, since almost every drainage pipe has something growing out of it. But this turned out to be the most photogenic fern.

In the states, we'd pull them all out. The Okinawans recognize the beauty and leave them alone.

This scene was the first thing that struck my eye. This image was the first of 15 that I took of the same area, trying different patterns and angles. But the first was the best!

This caught my eye right away...its certainly not something you happen across every day. The contrast between the white wall and the earthy colors of the fern and rust/dirt mix very well. Lighting is superb as well, the shadows seem to line up perfectly with the composition here, giving even more weight to the strong horizontals that form the S of the title. On a side note, that has got to be one of the thinnest borders I've ever seen anyone use on their photos.

Thank you for your kind words. I really appreciate them!

10 pixels. No more, no less. My earlier shots had some 25 pixel frames, but I found them too distracting. Rarely do I like a big thick frame on my images, since they can detract. I just want to subtly suggest the edges, without overdoing it.

Anytime.

Interesting philosophy about the border. I'm not a fan of the huge borders either (although I'm guilty of using them on my older stuff)...I just never see ones as small as your 10 pixels.

BeachDay [2005-02-06 21:48:31 +0000 UTC]

I love this photo bill. It has a lot to say. But on a side note, I was looking at your pictures collectively, is it really cloudy where you are?
okay. Now for what I think of this photo. This old buiding, with it's dull white color and worn down features brings itself purpose by letting this furn grown out of it's drainage pipe.
In this photo I also enjoy the structure, the way you capture the lines, the shadows, and green bunch on the white wall.

Good job bill. I always like your work.

billsabub In reply to BeachDay [2005-02-06 22:37:48 +0000 UTC]

Marc,

It has definitely been very cloudy here. The sun has poked through maybe three days in the past month. Getting kind of old.

It's not normal for this area. Okinawa is a semi-tropical island. Usually the clouds break for a few days between weather systems, but they seem to be holding on pretty good this year.

But the clouds actually make for better photography. I couldn't have got most of the shots that I did yesterday if it were sunny. Too much contrast.

Thank you for your kind words.

Bill
