Description Jizo for a lost child. The Jizo holds infants and toddlers, remembering the child that was lost.

Note the infant in her arms and the toddler at her feet.

BTW, no PS funkiness here. That's the beautiful bokeh from a 200/2.8L. The lens still makes me

This was in a small little cemetery in the far western outskirts of Tokyo. A lovely little gem.

Thank you!

Great capture Bill. You've picked out your subject really well and the repetition works wonderfully with this image.

One thing that I find distracting though is the large grey blob to the left of the shot. While I can understand your placement to balance the composition, for me it just seems to drag me away from the focal point. My eye keeps trying to work out what it is. So, I feel that a tighter crop around the subject would have been better.

I love shrines here so much. They are full of wonderful opportunities.

Fair enough. It's a complex area. After I posted it, I started seeing shapes that I didn't notice before. I won't tell you what I see, since you'll have to decide for yourself.

And you are right. Great opportunities.

Not abrupt at all. Don't worry about that.

I appreciate you sharing what you saw. That's what I look for and appreciate.

Well, everyone and their mother has already praised your DOF.
While impressive, I'd say that your composition is even more impressive. The line of statues arranged on the right side really draws the eye down through the photo well, and at the end of the line, there seems to be something there, but must be reconstructed through the viewer's mind. (thinking to myself: That could be a good technique to use if there are very strong lines leading to a vertex that is anticlimatic.)

I also like the statue in which you have chosen to focus. Not the first one, not the middle one, and not the last.

Beautiful shot.

billsabub In reply to cluskillz [2006-07-09 02:04:08 +0000 UTC]

Thank you so much. I never like first or last, if I have the choice. And an anti-climatic vertex is perfect, since that leads the eye right back up the line from where it came.

For the time being, IΒ΄m having fun with my 50/1.8
