Description So, I had just discovered the joys of shading skin with grey when *battgal tells me she's started using purple in shading! Well I just had to try that out, obviously.

Not much of a success, I think, I should have just gone for it. But then my model isn't perhaps someone whose skin requires purple... meet Kyouya from Ouran High School Host Club (c) Bisco Hatori. (Or Kyoya, honestly, how do you really spell his name?) Probably his first year at Ouran, he looks so young and sweet.

He doesn't look the least bit Japanese, but I was practising skin tones, not ethnicity... so... I'm forgiven? I'll draw him again someday, k? This wasn't supposed to be 100% realistic anyway... and it's about as realistic as manga is, right?

he looks japanese enough to me XD and i think the purple works... with any shading, i think it depends on the location, and the light source. the purple works here

Why does this not have more faves. This is a great blend of realism and anime style! I think you've captured Kyouya rather well. T3T

But purple is a lovely shading colour! I depends on the background, and on the skintone itself, but I always find it very useful in most of my shading-needs. And I think it works rather well here, actually. Doesn't it? Well, I think so. *rambles*

Young and sweet? He looks calculating to me. The slyness of the eyes is greatly enhanced by the glasses, especially since glasses are a tool in manga and anime to emphasize an evil or creepy side.

Awesome colouring as always, though. And awesome hair!

I never claimed it wasn't a good shading colour, just that I haven't really got the hang of it.

Oh, but this is pretty much as young and sweet as he can get without pretending. And you're dead on about the calculating.

Thanks!

Ooooh, so loving the hair! I love dark hair and you always manage to make it look so realistic! I fear I must have no patience.... The shading looks great and it takes practice to figure out how much and how light or deep to go with the color. (coming from one who needs to get back to practicing )I think you did just fine with it. So envious how quick you can turn out a drawing!!!!
