Description Sherlock Holmes again, wahey! I'm on a roll. Again, a random title, I really can't think of any good ones now... tsh.

Anyways, I felt like drawing another violin-related picture of him after "Of Rain". And this, I think, is the most successful Holmes drawing of mine so far. You may disagree, of course, but I really like this one. I had a wonderful reference for this so it might have something to do with it.

The reference I used is this [link] picture from ~Meltys . Go visit. Great stock images!

And Holmes (C) Conan Doyle etc.

Hello
I loveyour graphic, bold paintings and wanted to invite you personally to submit your art for a Sherlockian art contest that's being held in London in connection with a new book release ART IN THE BLOOD.  It's at a cocktail party the Baker Street Babes are running and there are medals and a purchase award from the Sherlock Holmes Hotel on Baker street as prizes.  Details are here: www.macbird.com/art-in-the-blo…
I'm afraid it's got a very short lead time.  Please email me if you have any questions.  We are particularly looking for Victorian era Holmes.
Thanks, Bonnie MacBird

This is very well done. I like the contemplative expression Holmes is wearing... I'm not too sure about your depiction of a violin though. But hey- it's a cartoon, right?

Thank you!

Hm, it is cartoon indeed - but could you perhaps elaborate? I haven't really drawn violins before and even though this isn't supposed to be like 100% realistic or anything, I'd like to know what's bugging you about the instrument ('cause, you know, I wouldn't like to repeat the same mistakes in the future).

Well- I just noticed that the "s" holes were a little small, you didn't have a chin rest (not mandatory but usual) and the pipe-like thing that you drew going under Holmes's chin is supposed to be black. I'm not fussed really- but if you wanted accuracy maybe go check out a few violin photos (unless you've done so already.)

If I seem picky it's because I own a violin. I can't criticise your work- not being able to draw myself.

Ah, I see your point now.

I naturally did check out some violin photos - I'm not too familiar with the instrument so I of course had to study the thing a bit. That also explains the tailpiece's colour. I noticed that in some Stradivariuses, it is not black at all. Although, the violins in question might have been too old for this purpose, so it probably should be black.

I shall have to pay attention to the holes (I can now see they are quite too small) and the omitted chinrest in the future. Thank you for pointing this stuff out, I appreciate it.

I'm just glad you didn't take it badly. I was afraid I might have come across as being critical- and I honestly wasn't trying to be. Thanks.

I think the tail-piece is black because it's made out of ebony. (You know, the wood. Not completely sure. I might have a violin- it doesn't make me a expert, drat it!)

Chin rests aren't essential either. However, I found it personally impossible to play mine without one because the violin just kept slipping... (as I said though- I'm no virtueoso, unlike Sherlock. I HAVE heard of really good violinists playing without one.)

As for the holes, violins DID go through an experimental, evolutionary stage when they were first being made- so maybe as an excuse you could say that Holmes had an EXTRA-special, extremely rare Strad! (In case somebody as picky as I am comes along... Us reviewers need to lighten up sometimes, eh?)

Constructive criticism (or advice or comments or...) isn't something to get mad about. Especially if it makes me see a flaw that I've not noticed before. And how else can one improve but to see one's own mistakes, no matter how small they are?

So no, I didn't take it badly at all, plus now I know to pay attention to certain details should I draw a violin again.

Yes, I think this is definitely one of your best Sherlocks too. The pose is great, and his expression is very good too!

hooray! dressing gown! XD this is great~ ...but again, i'm going to be picky XD hopefully you think of it as a good thing? anyway, the orientation of his upper body is different than his lower body; his chest seems to be straight toward us while his legs seem angled away slightly...
the lines look a bit rushed, but the coloring is awesome... so all i can say is, keep up the awesomeness XD *faves this one too*

Ah, getting picky, are we? I would feel very insulted if you weren't right about everything.

As for the lines, it is something I can change in this should I feel like it. It doesn't bother me at the moment, really, so I think I'm going to let it be. The orientation is a bit more tricky but not impossible to fix - but I'm not too bothered by that either.

Thanks for the critique and fav and all, I appreciate it.
