can this be used to make very long wigs? that go down to, say, the bjd's butt or perhaps farther?

BeanSproutMomo In reply to werewolf-hime1313 [2014-12-31 17:13:17 +0000 UTC]

Yes, absolutely! You would just swap out the hair material for what you want to use instead~

Ahh this is amazingly useful! Slightly late, but would this method work with nylon or saran hair? I'm looking to make some straight wigs and this is the best tutorial/method I've seen yet (providing that I can use it XD)

BeanSproutMomo In reply to RedonkulousEmmy [2014-07-23 21:05:38 +0000 UTC]

Thank you! Glad it could be of help~
Yes, this would work the same for those types of hair, but you will need to heat style the hair somehow to get it to lay flat on top. (pouring HOT water over it, or using a heat wand.)

Ah that's brilliant thank you! I really look forward to trying it out, I've tried rerooting before but it's a bit more tedious and permanent than I would like, I'm really glad that I have something else to try

You're very welcome!
Yeah I gave up on rerooting. It hurts my hands too much.

I just made a wig, and it turned out well except the part line is all gluey and gross - this will definitely help me next time!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

BeanSproutMomo In reply to Jillithe [2014-03-17 18:01:40 +0000 UTC]

If you have a gluey part, try using a little bit of acetone or nail polish remover. Just wet a q-tip with it, and carefully dab at the glue. It should come off a little bit.
Hopefully this does help for the next time you try as well! ♥

I'm actually making my own ooak bjd, and it's slow and steady.  I'm still far from the wigging part, but this tutorial made something that seemed nearly impossible and very intimidating, not so scary, it was really great of you to share it!
I will link you to my doll once she's done,

Excellent! I'd love to try that some day.

It's definitely not so scary once you get the hang of the steps. Best of luck to you, and I am always open to questions if you have any!

I also run a Doll Tutorial tumblr, if you ever need help with any doll projects:

I actually do have a question!! Where do you buy your hair? do you buy extensions or something of similar?

BeanSproutMomo In reply to XxKrAzYxKiDxX [2013-09-04 15:07:11 +0000 UTC]

Sure!
I bought these locks off etsy, but you can search for them online.

The ones in this tutorial were "Cotswold Locks", but you can also use 'Teeswater' locks, 'Wensleydale', 'Mohair', or any other creative material. I used feathers recently for a wig like this, but didn't do the split-top method with that one. ( I posted a pic today in my gallery)

KUDOS Momo!!!! I might try this with one of my Monster Highs because I really like the curly wool wigs on them. Plus getting to customize the colors looks like a lot of fun.

That's a good idea! This type of hair can be rooted in too.
I've got a bunch of colors, if you want some for a wig. ♥
