Robert Bruce Banner is the only son of atomic physicist Professor Brian Banner and his wife Rebecca. Although Bruce was loved dearly by his mother, he was abused and mistreated by his alcoholic father. After Bruce's birth, Brian felt Rebecca loved their son more than him and this jealously drove him mad. This envy was further provoked when Bruce showed hints of his immense natural genius at an early age.

When Bruce was ten, Rebecca had enough of the abuse from her husband and packed up bags for her and Bruce to try and leave. Unfortunately, their escape was cut short by Brian returning from work early, having been fired for his alcoholism. Distraught over the loss of his job and seeing his own wife and child in the process of leaving him, Brian snapped. In a fit of rage, Brian beat his wife to death before the eyes of his terrified son.

Afterwards, Brian Banner was arrested for his wife's murder and Bruce appeared in his trial as a witness testifying against him. However, before the trial started, Bruce was bullied and abused by his father into telling the judge and jury that he made up his testimony against his father and that his mother really died by accident when she tripped and fell while trying to flee her husband. While Brian Banner was originally cleared of charges, until he was overheard gloating about browbeating his own son into making a false testimony. Found guilty by reason of insanity, Brian Banner was hauled off to a psychiatric facility for treatment.

Following his mother's death and his father's incarceration, Bruce moved to New York to live with his aunt, Susan Banner-Walters. There, he found a dear friend with his cousin Jennifer Walters and the two bonded as though they were brother and sister. Bruce's intelligence allowed him to attend Midtown School of Science and Technology where he excelled in science but kept to himself.

After a later return to Dayton, Ohio to again testify against his father (who was found guilty and then sentenced to death row), Bruce's mental health began to decline. Hearing voices in his head and having severe fits of unprovoked anger, Bruce was taken to see mental health specialists but they dismissed these as mere coping mechanisms and they would eventually go away. Of course, they never did, but Bruce got better about hiding the signs of his mental anguish.

Sometime after graduating high school, Bruce would then Harvard University where he excelled in both of his studies in nuclear physics and biochemistry. It didn't take long before Bruce's feats was noticed by the U.S. Department of Defense. U.S. Army General Thaddeus "Thunderbolt" Ross approached Bruce, saying what that he was impressed with Banner's work in gamma radiation and wished for him to join the military as a weapons designer dealing with this sort of thing.

Shortly after his work with the army began, Bruce discovered that Betty Ross, a fellow Harvard student and Thunderbolt's daughter, had been the one to mention Bruce to her father. When Bruce's curiosity brought him to confront and ask Betty about her interest in his work, she confessed that she was more interested in more than just Bruce's work--but also in him. The two dated with Betty joining Bruce in his summer trip to New York and then to Ohio to attend the execution of his father.

After college, Bruce moved to Vista Verde, New Mexico to create gamma radiation weapons for the military. There were several early promising results, but then Bruce was placed as the head scientist and engineer of a top-secret project. This was sometime after Stark Industries ended their weapons development, so the U.S. military started to go for more radical approaches to manufacture newer, better weapons. This resulted in the hypothetical "Gamma Bomb" (or "G-Bomb" for short), an EMP-like nuclear device that would release high dosages of modified gamma radiation in a large radius, destroying organic matter but leaving structures and buildings untouched. During his long months working on the Gamma Bomb project, Bruce engaged to Betty, but struggles with perfecting the G-Bomb's results kept him stressed and repeatedly delaying their marriage to maintain his focus on work. There was also added stress from Thunderbolt Ross whose opinion of Banner soured. This stress got to Bruce. The voices in his head became louder and louder, making him question everything.

When the G-Bomb was finally completed after months of work, Bruce was present in witnessing its first (secret) test at an abandoned military base near Vista Verde, but when Banner notices that a young runaway named Ricky Jones had somehow breached security and entered the restricted test area, he quickly leaves the bunker to escort the civilian to safety before the bomb detonates. However, by the time he gets there, the G-Bomb goes off as Banner throws Ricky Jones into a protective trench. Before he had the chance to get himself to safety, Banner was doused with intense waves of radiation from the bomb's detonation. Instead of dying from radiation sickness, Banner's body absorbs the gamma radiation and transforms him into the side of him that he had kept hidden for years, which has taken the form of "the incredible hulk", a gigantic green monster of a man with enormous strength and a savage, child-like mentality.

During his first transformation as the Hulk, Banner went on a blind rampage, utterly destroying the military base and accidentally injuring Betty Ross in the process, putting her in a coma. Terrified at what he has done, Bruce and his new hulking green identity went on the run with the help of Ricky Jones, avoiding major population centers and trying to control his rage-induced transformations. This results in a confidential manhunt by the nascently-formed Hulkbusters, a specialized military unit led by General Thunderbolt Ross that was tasked to capture the Hulk and other gamma mutations like him, their true objective is to capture the Hulk and study his mutation by the G-Bomb in order to recreate the accident and create an army of supersoldiers for the military. This chase lasted for years, with all sorts of people coming in attempting to take advantage of the beast, but always ending with failure. The Hulk's days of running would end when one day he hears news about a newly-formed team of superheroes dealing a supervillain terrorizing New York City. While he initially ignored it, the Hulk is convinced to help them by a vision of Bruce Banner who tells him to become a hero despite being a monster, but Hulk only agrees if he becomes the dominant personality. After aiding the heroes in New York, the Hulk joins their team, becoming a member of S.H.I.E.L.D.'s newly-assembled team, the Avengers.

XXXXXX

Well, that's it for the core four Avengers for today, though the last two founding members of the team will be come sooner or later. The Hulk joins the Avengers after helping them, becoming one of Earth's mightiest heroes....which lasts for less than a day because like in the original comic and in Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes, he leaves the team after manipulations by a villain makes him believe that the others fear him for his unstable personality. But he eventually comes back and becomes a proper Avenger when he helps them out with a big threat or something. Also, I included Rick Jones (now called "Ricky Jones" in this universe) in his origin because it's disappointing that he's been left out in almost every adaptation of the Hulk's origin. The dude's the Hulk's sidekick and a honorary Avenger! He was even Captain Marvel for several years for crying out loud! Poor Rick.

As for his design, there's not much to say without radically changing his classic design....it's the Hulk. I added little things to my Hulk a bit unique, such as big glowing green veins across his chest and arms to show the raw power that's lying within him. I also made a bit hairy and kinda has a beard. Instead his iconic torn purple jeans, Hulk's wearing some standard issue Avengers spandex pants made from unstable molecules.
