He is immune to all but extreme cold and heat, resistant to poison, disease and fatigue, and can survive in hostile environments such as deep underwater or outer space for extended periods. With his hammer Mjolnir, he can  perform a number of feats, including flight, calling down lightning strikes, generating storm conditions, and negating magical barriers. The short-hafted hammer returns to his hand when thrown, regardless of what is in-between him and it. It can only be lifted by other individuals with her permission, or by the rare individual considered to be worthy by their valor. Mjolnir is indestructible and as a magical weapon, is capable of harming gods and otherworldly entities.

During the late eighties, there was a man from Aitkins, Minnesota named Donald Blake working at a government-funded research facility in a remote area of Nevada known as Project P.E.G.A.S.U.S. (Potential Energy Group/Alternate Sources/United States). Project P.E.G.A.S.U.S. was responsible for studying ancient alien artifacts and machinery left behind on Earth by other races like the Kree and the Skrulls, and use knowledge learned from them to create defenses against global threats. There, Blake worked alongside a fellow astrophysicist named Jane Foster with whom he had developed a romantic relationship with. But good things don't last forever as Jane was diagnosed with terminal breast cancer one day while they were working on a project. On her deathbed, Blake revealed the truth about himself to her, something no one else had ever known....

....Donald Blake was in actuality a being from an extradimensional world known as Asgard, capital of the Nine Realms where he was the eldest son of Odin, the Asgardian king and all-father. His real name was Thor Odinson, blood-child of Odin and a earth giantess named Jord, who was actually one of the many, many alternate identities of the elder god Gaea, the living personification of the Earth itself. Thousands of years ago, during his early reign over Asgard, Odin wished for a son whose power would derive from both Asgard and Midgard (as the Earth realm is called by the godly inhabitants of the Nine Realms), and hence he sought to mate with Jord, who gave birth to Thor in a cave in Norway. Months after Thor was born, Odin brought him to Asgard where he was raised by his wife, the goddess Freyja, who acted as Thor's mother from that time onward.

As the crown prince of Asgard, young Thor was feted as a future leader and war commander, and was schooled extensively in the arts of war by Odin and Asgard's greatest warriors. This would result in Thor valuing strength, courage, and loyalty above all else, desiring to be just like his father, who defeated Laufey, the leader of the Frost Giants during the Asgard-Jotunheim War many eons ago and brought peace across all the Nine Realms. His youngest sibling, Loki the god of mischief and trickery, was a close companion through his childhood, although Thor never recognized the envy and resentment in Loki which would eventually metastasize into opposition and obsessive insanity.

When he reached adulthood, Thor would be granted one of the most powerful weapons in the universe to help him become a warrior--Mjolnir, a special hammer forged by the dwarves of Nidavellir in the heart of a dying star that allowed him to control thunder and lightning. Hundreds of legends tell of Thor's battles on Earth and the other realms of the gods, leading the armies of Asgard against the Frost Giants and other threats with Mjolnir in his hand.

However, for all his valor, Thor grown to be impulsive and arrogant. Prideful battles ruined a number of carefully wrought treaties and plunged Asgard into unnecessary wars. Finally, tired of his son's obstinance, Odin banished Thor to Midgard, to be reborn amongst them and live as an ordinary mortal until he proved worth to take back his place in Asgard. Over a century ago by Earth's reckoning, Thor Odinson was sent down to the mortal realm in the form of a regular human. While he retained his memories and superior physical traits, he was stripped of all of his power and strength, and separated from Mjolnir, which deemed him unworthy to be its holder. Thor would spend the next century wandering the world, taking on new identities as the years passed, vainly searching for a way back to his homeworld and regain his status as a god, but with no success until his accrued knowledge eventually led him to Project P.E.G.A.S.U.S. where he hoped to open a wormhole back to Asgard with its advanced technology. But his search was fruitless, instead of finding a way to go back home, he had only found love, which was soon going to be taken from him. After finishing his story to Jane, Mjolnir suddenly appeared in the room and then engulfed the two in a flash of blinding light. Donald Blake and Jane Foster were never seen again.

Fast forward to modern times and the so-called "marvel age of heroes" was in full swing as various superpowered individuals like Iron Man and the Fantastic Four began appearing all around the world. During this time, people began to report sightings of a man in armor wielding a hammer that allowed to control the weather itself, using his powers to save those in need but always disappearing before anyone can properly thank him. But S.H.I.E.L.D., during the early stages of their Avengers Initiative, managed to track him down as they had connected the dots in his story with the disappearance of Donald Blake and Jane Foster years ago. When pressing more about his origins, the man calling himself Thor just states that Jane Foster had gone with him to Asgard when he regained godhood, but doesn't say anything more on the matter nor why he has returned to Earth. Thor accepted the offer to join the Avengers, not knowing that S.H.I.E.L.D. partially did it so they could keep him a closer eye on him.

XXXXXX

Regarding S.H.I.E.L.D. keeping an eye on Thor, they don't really trust his story of being an actual Asgardian to be true, but of course it all is, they just don't know it during the early days of the Avengers. But I kinda wanted his backstory to be left a mystery intentionally at first, with the exact nature of his powers left unknown and most people in S.H.I.E.L.D. just seeing him as a crazy guy who got superpowers by stealing an experimental weapon, similar to what happened with his Ultimate counterpart.

Design wise, you can see that he's pretty heavily based on Ultimate Thor and Movie Thor, with a couple elements taken from his mainstream comic designs, like his helmet and his arm bands, as well as his hammer of course.  As for his Asgardian armor, it appears to look more "comic-esque" to give it more a quasi sci-fi angle. The runes across his helmet read "thunder" in ancient Germanic because I thought it would look cool and give a Viking aesthetic. He also has Viking tattoos around his eyes whenever he's not wearing his helmet. You can also see that Thor has lost his left arm, based on how in the comics, Thor had his arm cut off during a battle with the dark elf Malekith. Now, he has a replacement arm entirely made of Uru metal, the same indestructible metal that Mjolnir is made of. Instead of blonde hair like in the comics, Thor has red hair to make it a bit more mythically accurate as the Thor in the myths is a redhead.

I hope you guys like it.
