Description In which Jack's attempts at finding out more about the Phantom of the Opera have lead him to some very valid (and some less valid) concerns,

OR

In which an apology is made.

The proper title of this issue is supposed to be FΓΌr Jack Frost (a play on FΓΌr Elise), but DA's title system does not like umlauts, so we translate. I guess I should just accept that language and I are going to be forever at odds, and I should not muck about with it.

For the music, please imagine something fun and winter-y and give it Erik's signature awesomeness. My composition skills are... sorely below his.

Erik belongs to Leroux and Webber.
Jack Frost belongs to Joyce, Ramsey, Steinberg, Berstein, Abaire, and Pine.

I don't think so? It's been a while and I don't recall, but my musical skills are limited to minor imitation, so I wouldn't really expect much.

and if I could actually come down and pick a favorite, this may well be why it'd be Erik.

An apology AND a song! Heck yes!

And, snrk!! Of course, OG wouldn't toss a Baby Grand! Can't tell you how much I loved that statement. I cringe whenever the stupid (and very over done) smash-a-piano gag is done on the screen. They can throw/drop/smash things less expensive and much less useful.

Actually, fun story, made a song dedicated to Jack Frost that's post on her tumblr if you want to take a look. It's posted on both her art blog (which is her the same as her DA name) and on her casual tumblr (jackthevulture), and I really recommend taking a listen if you want! But other than that oh man is this adorable! Eric's character growth! Yay!

Also, Erik does not hold with the destruction of baby grands.

I watched the Rise of the Guardians today. (I asked if I can borrow a friend's DVD... she said I can keep it. I take it: she didn't like it) I love this movie, but I didn't dare to check the Hungarian dub yet.

I can also see why someone here won't like/understand it, though. Too much is lost without having the right cultural context* and meta mindset, also the story is pretty basic (classic) The Hero's Journey (I charted it... I'm weird) so some might find it too simplistic.

* Lost without context. The main characters:
-- The Easter Bunny is well known.
-- Santa Claus is known vastly differently** (but Popcultural Osmosis helps).
-- The Boogeyman has a local equivalent.
-- The Tooth Fairy and the Sandman are virtually unknown (if they are it's mostly through Popcultural Osmosis).
-- Jack Frost? Who the hell is Jack Frost?

** Santa here is more-or-less the German version. So he comes at St. Nicolas' day (the 6th of December) not Christmas (that is either the job of Baby Jesus or the Christmas Angel) and brings small gifts (mostly sweets) for the nice and bunch of sticks for the naughty (a remainder for times when it was perfectly normal to beat misbehaving children). He also has the "Krampusz" as helper who is dark skinned, has hoofs, horns and a tail (he is also believed to be evil, or at least known to delight in punishing the naughty children with beating or mean pranks).

AsheRhyder In reply to Mali-chan [2013-06-09 19:13:55 +0000 UTC]

The movie is incredibly culturally based; however, it's inspired by a series of books that seem to require no actual cultural knowledge. In fact, to this point in the series, very few of the characters have actually made a visible connection to their commonly known incarnation. (Jack Frost hasn't even shown up in the books yet; our protagonist is a young girl.) The differences between the books and the movie make them seem like two different worlds, or at least two VASTLY different time periods, so if someone expresses caution or difficulty with the movie version, I usually try and recommend the books, which has one of the characters effectively go down my personal mental checklist for favorite character tropes.

... All of that is a rambling way of saying, "The books are different, and awesome too. I recommend them both for different reasons, not in the least because the fandom's done some amazing things in managing to transition and combine the two of them."

Mali-chan In reply to AsheRhyder [2013-06-10 05:57:52 +0000 UTC]

There is only one problem with this: The books are not out in Hungarian.

It's actually not that uncommon that we get adaptations (more likely with big budget ones) first or at all.

Like the only Dr. Seuss book out is "How the Grinch Stole Christmas!" while we got all the movies (for better or worse), and none the animated specials. Also the Howl's moving castle books got published after the Ghibli anime became a big hit (it even has a cash in cover). Etc.

My vote is he played 'Winterspell' by Two Steps from Hell or something like it! I think that song is so perfect for Jack since I saw this music video: [link]
Though, anything Erik writes would be epic!
