Description Cary Grant- master of Screwball comedy and etc.

I spent ages on this- I hope it paid off, although the scanner was inexcusably mean to it
I worked especially hard on the skin, trying to make it look real. The hair was fun and if more people wore brilliantine today, my life would be a lot easier!
Done in the intervals between studying for mock exams (and if anyone wants to wish me luck, that would be greatly appreciated )

If anyone is interested:
B mechanical pencil and 6B graphite pencil.
Quill sketching paper.
Blending stumps sizes #1 and #3 and a household tissue/kleenex
I use a grid to get my basic outline in (no one flame me, please, I hold to it that you have to work just as hard, grid or no) but rub it all out before shading begins, then I work directly from my reference, with just my outline to help me.

please tell me what you think!

you're welcome! haha, glad I could remind you! I was looking through portraits on DA to get an idea of what other people do to make them look good - I'm doing portraiture for my AP Drawing class and needed help, haha. yours is a beautiful example

Cary Grant. Classic, hilarious actor. He used to crack me up so much when I was a littlun.

Alene In reply to WineWriter [2009-09-06 07:56:32 +0000 UTC]

He can still crack me up, in his screwball comedies.

WineWriter In reply to Alene [2009-09-06 16:53:55 +0000 UTC]

His movies are still some of my favorites. There are few movies that actually make me laugh, and Grant is usually in those few movies.

I often find the old movies are funnier than the new ones - at least, they make me laugh more.

Amazing! Your attention to detail is stunning! It looks more like a photograph than a drawing! Cary Grant is an all time favorite of mine and you have most definately done hime justice with this piece

Thankyou so much! I could definitely do better now, though - this is such an old piece. One day I might find another Cary Grant picture that makes me want to draw it - and hopefully I'll have the time to do so!

WOW!
I love all your pictures, fred astaire, cary grant & gregory peck.
what are some of your favourite movies of them? i like cary grant in bringing up baby!
gregory peck in, roman holiday, gentleman's agreement, fred astaire in all the classics with ginger rogers & easter parade, holiday inn.

Thankyou (and thanks for the too!)
I think my favourite Gregory Peck movie would be Spellbound. I like Cary Grant in screwball more than romance, so things like The Bachelor and the Bobby Soxer, The Awful Truth and My Favourite Wife.
And I love all the Fred and Ginger movies, and The Band Wagon, Easter Parade, all the things like that (of course, if it's a musical, I'm almost certain to like it! )

OMG!!! I LOOOOOVE Cary Grant! When I was about 6 years old I would tell everyone I was going to marry him (even though, at this point, he had already been dead for quite some time... i was oblivious to the fact my future husband was no longer with us lol) This is GORGEOUS!!!! You have another from me!!!

Thankyou! I'm so glad you like it so much!
A few years ago, I had a friend's father very worried, 'cause I bought a movie with Gene Kelly in, which *obviously* meant that I was in love with him (the fact that I will watch anyone who can dance didn't seem to weigh, and it didn't seem to be an option with Fred Astaire He was dead by then too)
Thanks so much for the s on this and Grace Kelly!

Yay!!! I think the story goes that Cary was in love with her but she married that prince guy. He was very sad about that. That's the story my grandma tells me. I don't know if it's true or not lol.
