Description Cary Grant- master of Screwball comedy and etc.

I spent ages on this- I hope it paid off, although the scanner was inexcusably mean to it
I worked especially hard on the skin, trying to make it look real. The hair was fun and if more people wore brilliantine today, my life would be a lot easier!
Done in the intervals between studying for mock exams (and if anyone wants to wish me luck, that would be greatly appreciated )

If anyone is interested:
B mechanical pencil and 6B graphite pencil.
Quill sketching paper.
Blending stumps sizes #1 and #3 and a household tissue/kleenex
I use a grid to get my basic outline in (no one flame me, please, I hold to it that you have to work just as hard, grid or no) but rub it all out before shading begins, then I work directly from my reference, with just my outline to help me.

please tell me what you think!

WOW! Very, Very brilliant! you captured him perfectly- the chin, the eyes, the hair- ALL OF IT! he looks incredibly handsome and that's partly him and partly your 'treatment' and understanding of him...this is wonderful- well done!
and yes...do James Dean!!! hehehe fabulous work me dear...you are very talented and all that hard work TOTALLY paid off!

Thanks soooooo much
James Dean will happen.....but he is at the end of a list, at the top of which is a horse (oh horror) That I will have exactly 1 day to finish WITH an evening out in the middle *dies*...then there is a wedding portrait, THEN I can do other stuff. But rest assured....he WILL come one day!

Great work, generally very realistic and similar. Accurate soft shading, interesting vision of hair. Well pictured all the flexures on textiles. I just find his ear a little rushed comparing to the rest of this such a detailed portrait, especially where it borders on hair (that contour is too rough). Anyway, I really like it.

Regards .

Yes, I felt the same way about the ear. I find it is a very annoying habit of old photographers to shine too much light on the ear, so that they look very 2-dimentional, and are very hard to render realistically.
But considering I don't like the ear either (I really must work on ears) I'm so glad you liked the rest of it! Thanks

No, I started it last Wednesday, but I thought it turned out pretty good!
But the one I did of Johnny Depp is VEEEEERY bad, and horrible, and bleurk, so I prefer to ignore its existance. Time must have made you forget! The one I did of Gregory Peck is good though- I prefer to remember that

Thankyou, but it IS bad. The photo I used was horrid, and everything is grey and oversmudged. I shall have to redo it one day....And I'm afraid I'm not a Johnny Depp fan, so the fact that it is him doesn't help *hides*...although I did like the movie!
and thankyou for compliment

Alene In reply to Cielrouge [2004-10-13 06:11:33 +0000 UTC]

Well, for one thing, he's already dead, which probably excludes most people who don't watch old movies from knowing what he looks like anyway
But I'm really glad you like it! Thanks for the compliment!
