Description My pride and joy
I think this is the picture that I have worked the longest on ever....but I'm pretty pleased with this one...except the lamp. (If anyone has any suggestions for that that are easy to do and does not require the whole thing being rubbed out, do please tell!)

Medium: B mechanical pencil, 6B graphite pencil, assorted erasers, tissue and blending stumps.

Hope you like! Do please tell me what you think!

**UPDATE**
This landed highly commended at a country show

Oh, I LOVE Gregory Peck!
This is absolutely fantastic work! I mean, yeah, the lamp is a bit off, but other than that, it's stunning (and really, the lamp isn't all that bad!)!
Keep up the awesome work! You have a terrific gallery!

Thankyou! Yes, I'm rather better at adding things to portraits now than I was way back in ... 2004. I think this was the first time I tried adding stuff that wasn't actually in my reference. So it's not too bad for a first try.
Thankyou (and thanks for the too ) you have a fabulous gallery yourself, so make sure you keep it up too!

Thankyou so much! I'm obviously nowhere near as pleased with it as I was way back in 2004, but it's actually still stuck up on my wall, so it hasn't dwindled into something I can't bear to look at, which is quite an achievement! Thanks for the ! I'm so glad you liked it!

Really a great job! This drawing signifies how I think of Gregory Peck: amiable, intelligent, reflective, articulate and well read. In high school, our copies of Harper Lee's TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD included a forward by Gregory Peck in which he praised the book and said that the town she described [Finch's Landing, if I remember] reminded him of the small California town he'd grown up in. I don't think that the lamp should be too hard to fix. It seems (to me) that it's leaning slightly to the right. Maybe, if you thickened it a little you could alter the angle and balance it. It might be neccessary to broaden the base and the shade too. Anyway, it's a minor thing. The drawing is awesome!

I won't be going back and fixing anything up, because this piece is just too old now (three years, heavens!) - this was pretty much the first portrait I did with things other than the main person in, and since such a lot of it was made up, it's full of mistakes. But I still quite like it! I'm glad you do too!

Alene In reply to morganisimo [2007-08-19 04:27:07 +0000 UTC]

It's a long time to think back, but I think it took me a bit over 20 hours, which is pretty standard for me now, although at that stage it was the longest I'd ever spent on a portrait.

Alene In reply to argentinian-queen [2006-06-27 13:05:27 +0000 UTC]

Gregory Peck was an actor from the 40s to about the onwards. Probably most well-known for his roles as Atticus in 'To Kill a Mockingbird' and Joe in 'Roman Holiday', but was also in a lot of war films, a few romantic ones, a couple of Hitchcock movies, such as 'Spellbound'. Did quite a lot of films over a number of genres, in fact, but he's not so well-known now.
I'm glad you like my work, thankyou!
