Description The second in a set of 5 that originally went through 2 other names, Obelisk and Polygon. The first has yet to reach a desired state of any kind, and the others are yet to get past a very skeletal form (as they have been for almost 2 months). The name comes from the sole release by the band of the same name, involving 3 serious musos: Terry Bozzio (Zappa, Missing Persons), David Torn (David Bowie, Will Calhoun) and Mick karn (Japan, Kate Bush).

acrylic paint, screenprinting ink, glass shard stencils, debris on bristol sheets; final assembly done digitally.

I was originally going to suggest something to you for DD, but I just got so wrapped up in your gallery I totally forgot what it was.

A girl in my art class did these huge acrylic and glue paintings that came out in a similar style to this one. In a way almost like cave paintings from prehistoric eras. I really love the style, and I especially appreciate your use of whites and oranges. That kind of inverse cream/blue on top the white is really striking.

Screw that other chick who said 'hmmm....it looks like one of thousends pictures I saw at school of art in CRACOW.....sorry' some people just have no idea what the comment function is for.

How is what she said helpful in the least? Gosh, people just make me mad sometimes.

Anyway, I really like this. That's pretty much all I wanted to say. It has a very native, raw, earthy feel to it, with the contrasting modern touch of a distinct shape. Really, I'm gonna shut up now before I bore you.

Well, when you remember the DD selection, drop it down. I'm always looking (even when I am deluged with requests I need more)

I especially appreciate your use of whites and oranges. That kind of inverse cream/blue on top the white is really striking.

It's the magic of digital. It let's me take all the color-theory rules I already broke when I painted the analog bits and lets me add further entropy as I digitally finalize it.

How is what she said helpful in the least? Gosh, people just make me mad sometimes.

Does not bother me in the slightest. I do this for my own edification. If someone says something nice, it is always appreciated (I am obviously responding), but ultimately changes what I do not one iota. If someone castigates my work, it also does not change. I have a certain catharsis I seek irrespective of public opinion or trend preferences and the fact that my work gets any visibility at all still boggles me at times.

Cheers,

z

Very visceral. I can almost make out a face at the bottom there, probably not intentional, though.

zeruch In reply to smashmethod [2005-10-17 08:25:07 +0000 UTC]

So little of the abstract stuff is "intentional". It really is largely a very spontaneous set of initial visual outbursts that I then try to find a commonality as I assemble them together, but its mostly via a looking at the bits and seeing which pieces might fit in a certain way rather than a set design from inception (while that does happen, it is very, very rare).

Interesting how the orange on the right at first looks like streaks of paint, but on closer examination also looks a bit like road rash--ouch. Very attractive colors and textures on this one.

I will have a go, I like the rough grunge texture behind, the right tones, and the organic decay quality to it, and I like how such a clean form has been made by another layer of rusty decay.

Great stuff. Atmospheric, and would look good on a wall. Submit a higher res version if you can

They all end up as prints eventually (not that I sell much, but I always want hardcopy for myself), so a better res version will most likely makes its way here.

Don't you already have the original hardcopy?

How do you get it onto the computer? I am not sure I understand: acrylic paint, screenprinting ink, glass shard stencils, debris on bristol sheets; final assembly done digitally. I think there is something underlying that which is not clear.

Good work

I do.

How do you get it onto the computer?

These works are not done entirely in analog, but various base paintings are scanned and then integrated into a singular whole digitally.

That is completely ok, seeing as I go through a similar process making them at times.
