zasu In reply to kayaksailor [2010-04-23 06:35:21 +0000 UTC]

i've sometimes thought they should come up with a growth inhibiting hormone to keep kittens and puppies young looking - and then i realize how creepy that would be

what a beautiful cat! have you seen any in real life?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

kayaksailor In reply to zasu [2010-04-24 06:15:08 +0000 UTC]

no I haven't, in life that is...there's a tv show called Cats 101 and it's all about different breeds...they talk about the qualities, good and bad, of about six breeds per episode. These are really smart, friendly, wanna be where you are, kitties which makes them a bit 'in your face' at times LOL

zasu In reply to kayaksailor [2010-04-24 08:05:07 +0000 UTC]

oh yeah, i've seen that series. also the Dogs 101. i noticed the description online said they were cats that always want to be with you - not good for cats you might want to leave at home for a couple of days at a time occasionally :/

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

kayaksailor In reply to zasu [2010-04-25 04:01:34 +0000 UTC]

hmmm...very good point! And the description also was talking about their curiosity and not being able to keep them off of counters as they want to know what you're doing...I'm ok with the night stand or bedroom bureau but I will not tolerate the kitchen counters or dining table...bathroom is marginal

he's simply awesome :d i wish i could get one more kitten too but my new leather couches disagree btw i share your fear of stepping on small animals, i always have that feeling when i see my guinea pigs.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

zasu In reply to yv [2010-04-19 17:13:13 +0000 UTC]

we have a couple of leather couches too - i've come to realize that might be a mistake in an animal loving home

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

yv In reply to zasu [2010-04-20 10:00:35 +0000 UTC]

we bought our couches thinking exactly the same. we have two grown-ups but they're still scratching every now and then. but as long as the leather doesn't get totally destroyed, we come to terms with it. a wild kitten might be a bit too much at the moment tho oh well, all cats from neighbourhood come to visit me anyway

i spent about a week looking on craigslist - this one happened to be for free, but i was willing to pay up to $20 "rehoming" fee. our last kitten came from the humane society, and was fixed, had most of his shots, and had already been microchipped - also a great deal for whatever it was we paid at the time - but their kittens seem to always be older than this 7 week old one.

kayceeus In reply to zasu [2010-04-19 00:19:06 +0000 UTC]

When I took in that litter of kittens 3 years ago I found out that Pet Co, etc... by law can't adopt out until they're at least 8 weeks so that's probably why. It is nice having them all ready to go like that from the humane society but it's so fun to get a young kit too. Yours is especially cute!

zasu In reply to kayceeus [2010-04-19 00:30:14 +0000 UTC]

oh.. so THAT'S why they're always older and bigger

what happened with the litter of kittens you took in? were you just fostering them?

kayceeus In reply to zasu [2010-04-19 15:00:43 +0000 UTC]

I tend to get a few strays who come by to eat my cat's dry food, we have a cat hoarder on the next street and I suspect another close by also. Anyway one day I saw a new cat who looked suspiciously large and sure enough a month later she'd had 6 kittens in my friend's garage. I told her to bring them all over and I watched after them until the kittens were 8 weeks, old enough to go to a rescue group. I did keep the mother, who I immediately had spayed, and 1 of the kits though. It was such a ball having the kittens here, a lot of work but so many laughs I'd love to have nothing but kittens all the time! It is very heart wrenching to give them up though...

zasu In reply to kayceeus [2010-04-19 17:10:18 +0000 UTC]

sure is hard to give them up - but if we don't, we end up like the cat hoarders down the street

we have a neighbor whose backyard abuts our backyard, who took in a pregnant cat. she wasn't able to find homes for any of them, so they fill our backyard (none have had kittens themselves, so i think she got them fixed). we like it though - reminds us of france where there were millions of cats roaming around free, but friendly, well fed and healthy looking (there were dishes full of cat food left out everywhere, but i don't know if they took them to the vet).

kayceeus In reply to zasu [2010-04-19 17:59:26 +0000 UTC]

I agree I don't at all mind cats around, for one thing it keeps the mice population down and as long as they're healthy, fed and fixed who's to care? Except maybe my cat hating neighbor who used to call constantly about my cats pooping in her yard. Like my 3 out of the hundred around here are the only cats who use her yard! So I'd go over and dig for cat poop. I finally sent her some ways to keep them out that I got off the internet but did she try any of them? NO! I think she just likes to complain!

zasu In reply to kayceeus [2010-04-19 18:06:15 +0000 UTC]

lol... that's like when i lived in the mountain wilderness, no neighbors for miles except for vacation homes, and the first time i met one of the weekend neighbors was when she brought a photo of my dog pooping in her 1 acre yard - to the homeowners ass. to complain. i was embarrassed, yes, but we have bears, coyotes, foxes, raccoons, weasels, porcupines, mountain lions, bobcats, moose, elk, deer and geese pooping everywhere too!

funny thing is, she eventually became a pretty good friend of ours - we still talk about once a year even though we've moved.
