I hate it when my teachers meddle x_oi brought it in to work on .
my teachers tell me i need to finish it 'immediately' to 'use for a contest' >_> i hate those reputation-centered-chinese-studio-teachers
look, if you want me to do a contest pic, let me do some surrealism in an actual pieces intended for a contest.... kay? and tell me at least 3 months before hand? hello? you're an art teacher! you know how long it takes for oil paints to oxidize!
*sigh*
so he made me 'compromise' this pic
i like the yin yang ish setup of the pic. That's it. You can see which parts are rushed x_o
i don't like the roughness of the paper.
I want to do a series of self portraits with a twist of fantasy/surrealism x_o unfortunately that means me taking ref pics of me in dresses .... huhn .. can't be too bad... i need a better camera though...
how many human/animal mixes can people do anyway ? ._.
centaur, mermaid, fairy, satyr, lycanthrope ... i got nothing ... ...

but seriously. I need to break out of the mold and go into abstraction and more expressive pieces...
I did better when i actually finished my pieces ...

love the hair. and the clothing folds. what kind of pencil do you use for the blackest areas?

i actually used a faber castell black colored pencil for some areas
for other darker areas, i crosshatch with this soft lead pencil i have x_o i dunno what it is... it was some cheap pencils i got for like $2 for 10

ooo. I'm so lazy that I just use a mechanical pencil -FAIL- I really need to get un-lazy and actually use different pencils to shade =_= that's why my shading always ends up so light ):

i love mech pencils for the detailing ;D
crosshatching is just following the shape of something with lines ._." but for photorealism, it really doesn't matter in the end cause everything is smoothed out
