Description

The Sea Skate Minor are a small open ocean dwelling drake with a unique adaptation. Despite is’s minuscule size the Sea Skate Minor travels vast distances in search of food, not by it’s on wing but by hitching a ride off it’s far larger cousin. Using the suction plate on it’s back, the Skate Minor will adhere itself to the underbelly or wings of the Greater Sea Skate. As it’s host feeds, the Skate Minor will dismount, quickly gulp large quantities of water and sift out any food morsels by pushing out the water and trapping food particles in it’s bristle teeth .Skate Minor’s are always found in Greater Sea Skate colonies and will typically nest adjacently in small burrowed holes. The Minor skate is largely non sexually dimorphic but males will grow a larger head crest which will become more vibrant.
