Description I have a few days of free time, so some much needed updating and replying is called for!!

Finally found time to photograph this drawing and spruce it up in PS. I miss my scanner and tablet so, so much right now!!

Inspired by the Japonisme art movement in the late Victorian/Edwardian period.

gah, I love japonism <3 have a great book on it. Before seeing the title I was going to say "do you like Whistler?"

I do like Whistler, and also Tissot and William Merrit Chase too, their Japonisme works have such vibrant and luxurious style. My favourite Whistler work has to be the Peacock Room though; it combines striking colour combinations, gold and peacocks... what's not to love?!

I have a couple of books on Japonisme and a great book on dry point etchings and illustrations from the Belle Epoque era which has some Japonisme styled images in. It's such an amazing style, so I've been trying to weave a bit of it into my drawings lately.

I'd love to see that peacock room one day. I went to Leighton's house in London recently, which was recently renovated and has some really cool design elements as well.

You seem to have a rather interesting book collection at any rate!

Me too, for a while that room and the shop interior designed by Alphonse Mucha for George Fouquet's jewellery shop (which also has a peacock element in it) were the two rooms I most wanted to see. I saw the latter a few years ago, so just The Peacock Room to go!

When I was at uni my friends used to joke that I had a better collection of art and costuem bnooks than the university library, it was funny until we actually counted and found it was true! I just used some of the money I earned on tour to buy five new books, so I don't think my collection will ever stop growing!

Is this done with inks? I love the color palette, as usual.

The large blocks of black are done with a new brush pen I bought the other day and then the details are done in fineliner and a bit of pencil, but yes it's mainly ink.

Aww so lovely! Reminds me of those old timey classic arts before
Gotta say, how her bright-white skin sticks out of the ultimately black clothes and hair, really pulls off her beauty :]

I've been looking at illustrations and etchings from this period too, so I wanted to use a similar level of contrast. Glad you like it!
