Contest short story:

I slowly push the door to my room open.

I know it's passed midnight and I don't expect to find anybody awake in the castle. Even the guard that met me at the gate seemed to be fighting against sleep to the best of his abilities.

I detach the button that is keeping my hooded cape on my shoulders, it falls to the floor with a muffled sound, it's so heavy due the rain that has been pouring on me for the past hours.

I light a candle to better see around my room and there they are...lying on the large bed next to each to other...such a lovely sight. Slowly I make my way to the bed, not wanting to wake them up, but my husband opens his weary eyes, turns, and smiles to me saying:

"Welcome home darling... I believe you are a little late."
"I know, I'm sorry. The rain delayed the horses, we we're forced to take shelter for a few hours." I gently stroked my daughter's hair.
"When she heard the servants say this morning that you we're coming home tonight, she insisted on staying up to greet you at the castle gate..."
"...and you allowed her to remain awake for so long..."
"You know me, I have a hard time saying no to my little princess."

So true. Being the leader of the Grey Wardens of Ferelden keeps my away from my home more often that I would like to admit. I rarely see my husband Alistair and my daughter Eleanor... but seeing them tonight, how much they missed me and how much I longed to see them again...I know that I am loved and that this family is held together tightly by a bond that will never be broken. I will not fail them like I failed my mother and father, I will protect them with my life.

You guys would not believe how much time I spent on this...I thought I was gonna grab my computer and hurl it out of the window...but I didn't...Also, I thought I was going to hate this drawing in the end, but I do not...

This was put together as my entry for 's contest featuring a Grey Warden and their family some years in the future. Since I always liked the idea of marrying Alistair as a Cousland lady, I paired my Camilla with Alistair some years in the future (about 5 or something). I had a hard time with the kid I have to admit. She's still looks a little off to me. I didn't know if I was gonna give her her mother's dark brown hair or her father's golden locks, in the end, I made her a color of blond slightly different from her fathers. I colored Al's shirt in blue because all the noble clothing is Dragon Age is VERY BRIGHTLY COLORED, and he mentions once in the game that he likes purple...so, besides, with the sheets, and his shirt white like I wanted it to be in the beginning, it would have been too bland.

I SUCK at shading...that's why this took me so long to do. For the love of me, I just don't understand it...it's not that hard though, pick a light source and stick with it. I watch anime with much more attention now because I want to see how it's done, but it just doesn't register with me (you should have seen how long it took me to get the right pillow's shading like I wanted to). Overall even I will probably not win the contest (I never do), I still had a blast with this and I am very satisfied with the results. I'm trying to change my style, making my eyes less cartoony and my heads less square, not quite there yet... but still, not too bad right...
