was doing a samurai piece for fun, so i decided to do something similiar too! <: o

I have a question, do you draw fist plan at first? and named it layer, and then U do background? or first you know what to draw at 100% and draw what's behind and then the first plan become up? .. or you make a project of what to draw first? XD teach me ^^

I work in layers, whether or not I have a solid and clear image in my head. I don't have a preference to starting on any particular plane. It is dependent on the style of image. Whatever approach seems smartest/works best, I suppose.
Working with layers is a habit I grew from working on tight-timeline projects that almost always demanded changes down the road. Especially on environment work! Layers help organise the image, allowing me to quickly edit or redo elements and achieve interesting perspective effects, as well as to keep edges sharp and clean, which visually helps create an illusion of detail.
For personal pieces such as this one, I tend to start with some rough ideas in my head of possible compositions, all pretty similar and with the main elements more or less decided upon. The actual background design or side elements are more of an afterthought- their purpose is to to amplify the mood or to anchor the story. I think of my approach like if I was director and they were actors and I was trying to set up a still shot. I might remove certain elements if they weren't helping with the story, or if one of my actors were doing a crappy job and don't add to the scene. Hope that helps some

Stunning detail and depth, it must have taken way more than 3-4 hours. Its amazing how you create the shapes and people...do you just draw a rough outline of them first with the pentool or somthing?
