It's like a world outside of this world, man i think you know about it, another level of conscience in the mind.

Iis it with Decalcomania?

I have experimented with processes sort of like decalomania in the past but this was painted with brushes.

Thanks again. "Fountainhead" is somewhat inspired by "Awaken" by Yes as well as "Fountains of Light" by Starcastle.

Thanks. An early painting of mine done back in 2000. Completely spontaneous.
Nowadays I layout the landscapes in most of my paintings ahead of time using photos as reference to one degree or another, leaving room for some spontaneity in places.

Thanks. This was one of my earliest paintings. It was fun to do. Sometimes I can get rather bogged down with some of my spontaneously created paintings because I'm not sure in what direction to take the image. This is one reason why I tend to use photos to go by more in my later work.
With "Fountainhead" though, everything just seemed to fall into place.

Thanks. I'm truly pleased at all the positive comments on this painting, especially considering that it was one of my earliest paintings and completely spontaneous.

Spontaneously it's good! That's when the artist shows the imagination.

Thank you. It's funny. I remember when I finished it back in May,2000 I felt satisfied with the painting but not in a real emotional way.I even remember thinking to myself at the time, "why don't I feel more happy about how it came out?"
Sometimes I wish that I could see my art as others do.

Well, I know what do u mean. In our mind we always have the picture of "how it should be", but it's not always the same at final, but the most important thing is that it looks amazing anyway.

Gorgeous, it really transports you. I love that about your art, it feels like you're going to different world without even leaving the room.

Stunning and imaginative imagery! Really beautiful, and I love that I can see hands and legs and bits and pieces in there, whether or not they were intentional - in that way it's got that Dali landscape quality, but I agree with the mention of Bosch. Both great influences to me too The greens here are really warm, and I think the little parts of purple/red/yellow etc really lift the whole painting. I'd live here

Tolkyes In reply to Simanion [2010-12-30 18:23:22 +0000 UTC]

Thank you. When I draw or paint 'biomorphically' (spontaneously created organic imagery), they often unintentionally resemble faces, various body parts or animals. I never consciously try to do this except maybe once in a great while.
I'm glad that you like my painting.

I thought it made reference to Ayn Rand's "Fountainhead" but still is nice!

Tolkyes In reply to AudreyDuMaurier [2010-12-19 02:02:07 +0000 UTC]

Thank you. I came up with the title after the painting was finished simply because it had fountains in it which could in turn, have been feeding a spring or river.

ah, beautiful piece, makes me think of a beautiful elvish garden.. the colors are very pleasing on the eyes and the piece as a whole gives inspiration, very well done

Thank you. This is one of my first paintings that I did (April, 2000) when I first started to seriously paint.
I never received much of a reaction to it though. In fact, I just decided at the last minute to dig. photograph it to be included in my files along with my more recent work.
I'm glad I did though, considering the positive response that I've received from it.
Here in the Tampa Bay area galleries tend to lean toward one extreme or the other: elitist, avant-garde galleries or galleries that cater to tourists and feature quaint seascapes.

Thank you. Bosch is one of my top two or three favorite artists and a big influence on me, not for the religious symbolism but his sense of composition and weird yet beautiful biomorphic imagery.

At first the concept remind me of the center peice of "The Garden of Early Delight" from Bosch ! And I think you did a great job creating this surreal/fantastic environement... the line work is well done and the backgronda and sky are well executed to !!!
