Description Taken at the Peoria Zoo

This is one of the tortoises they have at the zoo, unfortunately I don't know my tortoises well enough to tell you if it's the Aldabra or Galapagos. I do know when I walked up, I instantly knew that the light and shadow would make for a very nice black and white. And the textures!!

Excellent shot! I've never seen a turtle with a shell that large...it's really something how textured it really is.

They really are amazing, and I think I read somewhere that their shells just keep growing year after year, if you get close up to one (whether it's Galapagos or Aldabra) you'll see rings on those segments like a tree and it's supposed to tell you how old they are.

Very nice picture ! The dark background really makes the light shell stand out.

But I didn't know turtles could have shells so thick! Must be bulletproof...

Thank you!! I would have to think that they are too, with how thick it was!!
