Getting photos of Zheng the red panda at the Akron Zoo is extremely difficult. He likes to pace alot and walk around in that cute little waddle he has and so when he started crawling up on his tree and was hanging out there long enough for me to get a large slew of awesome photos of him to choose.

Red pandas often remind me of a cat when I look at them, and indeed they can have some cat-like behavior in that they are both nocturnal and crepuscular (active during the night, dawn and twilight) and that when they wake up they tend to clean themselves in a cat-like way by licking their paws and rubbing it over their face and fur. Because pandas (both red and giant) cannot process cellulose, they must eat the tender leaves and shoots which are lower in cellulose content, and in great quantities because bamboo is so low in nutrients.

Like many endangered species, the biggest danger to red pandas is a loss of habitat, but there are also the dangers of poaching for their fur, so we must do everything we can to keep this species safe.
