#003 Groklett

Groklett -> Gromlord

Hunter of Light

Groklett loves looking at and destroying lights, giving its name Hunter of Light a literal meaning. It's born in caves far beneath the Earth's surface, so Groklett is not usually exposed to much light, save for its main source of food - glowworms, which, when eaten for a long extended period of time, stain its eye and tongue into the color of glowworm it eats. Because of its love (or disdain?) of light, if it were to ever leave its dark cave home it would be absolutely mesmerized by the light of the outside world, chewing up and eating literally anything that's shiny and sparkly. Unfortunately because its delicate eye has evolved only to see in the dark, if the amount of light exceeds that of a normal moonless night, it would shock Groklett's eye so much that it can go blind. But Groklett doesn't care; if it's bright and shiny, it'll investigate the source regardless of the dangers it may bring.

This makes cave expeditions that much more difficult for explorers. They must avoid using any bright lights to avoid attracting unwanted encounters from Groklett. When hunting for food, Groklett normally uses light as an indicator to find it. So if light is illuminating from an explorer's lantern or flashlight, it could potentially mistake the light for a quick meal and end up attacking them with its poisonous saliva and sharp claws. Therefore, if someone needs to explore a cave for whatever reason, it's recommended to bring a throwable flare or match in order to draw the Groklett's attention elsewhere in case you were to encounter one.

I just realized that I use purple a lot :V But still, I think purple works well with Groklett's design, don't you agree? >w<~
Either way, I hope you like this little guy! (Even though he's kinda weird looking, he still has an odd amount of cuteness in him too, I think! ^w^~) As I was drawing him, I was struggling to come up with a story for him, mainly because of how versatile his design is - skeleton, odd patterns, different colored eye and tongue compared to the rest of his body... But I finally settled on this attraction-to-light concept because I thought it was unique enough to apply to Groklett and still make sense with his design >w<~ Hopefully you enjoyed reading his description! ^0^/~
