█ BIRTHDAY ✦ February 13th
█ HEIGHT ✦ 5'3"
█ BLOOD STATUS ✦ Half-blood
█ HOUSE ✦ Hufflepuff
█ YEAR ✦ Fourth
█ PET ✦ N/A
█ WAND ✦ Alder ◦ Dragon Heartstring ◦ 9in ◦ Supple
Whilst Alder makes for an unyielding wood, its ideal owner is not stubborn or obstinate, but often helpful, considerate and most likeable. Whereas most wand woods seek similarity in the characters of those they will best serve, alder is unusual in that it seems to desire a nature that is, if not precisely opposite to its own, then certainly of a markedly different type.
When an alder wand is happily placed, it becomes a magnificent, loyal helpmate. Of all wand types, alder is best suited to non-verbal spell work, whence comes its reputation for being suitable only for the most advanced witches and wizards. (src)
█ ELECTIVES ✦ Ancient Runes, Magical Theory
█ EXTRACURRICULAR ✦ Orchestra
█ PERSONALITY
Noah is a rather outspoken person. Quiet and thoughtful, he has a tendency to get lost in his own thoughts. He often comes off as aloof or somewhat of a loner, though in truth he is a little when spoken to, even if it doesn't show such on his face. Though he is rather dull, often giving a delayed reaction to activities happening around him, he is rather observant and listens well. It's rather difficult to make friends with him, but one who does manage such will find him quite reliable, and someone who can be trustworthy. His serious and studious attitude will make him someone you could ask for notes from, but not so much someone who will understand every joke you crack around him.█ HISTORY
Noah's life has been odd, to say the least.
His parents, having moved deep into a suburban area, were scarcely heard from, mostly seen during their weekly grocery trips. (According to friends, they were both on bad terms with most their relatives, which was why they moved.) They were scholars, researching the muggle-magical relationship, and lived among the world free of magic. Noah was born during those days. Very few people saw the child then, but said he was oddly quiet but otherwise seemed happy.
Then, two years following his birth, the second witch trials shook their world. His parents were said to be very troubled by the events. Three months following the events, a friend found a sleeping child on the couch the morning after a sudden visit from his parents. “We have something to do, so take good care of him,” A note read, left on a nearby table.
The disappearance was reported to the muggle police, who in the end found few leads. The best guess as to what may have happened, coming from their wizard friends, was that they left hoping to help solve conflicts in another part of the world. The child, stuck in the middle of this situation, seemed as dazed and confused as everyone else, and unable to assist the investigation.
Care of the child fell upon the father's sister, the only relative in the muggle world and country. Though she took the job out of obligation, like with other family the couple did not have the best relations with her. She considered the child more of a burden than anything else, which only worsened with the revelation that his refusal to talk was really an outright inability to do so. And well, she didn't care enough to look into it further beyond a visit to a muggle pediatrician, let alone try to fix it. He was sent to public school, under the claim there wasn't the money to send him to a school that could probably take care of him.
Despite the teachers doing what they could, it was inevitable that he would be ridiculed and sneered at when the other kids couldn't understand why he wouldn't speak. In the later years of elementary school he also got ragged on for being treated differently, for example being exempt from giving presentations to the class. At home, his aunt seemed defeated in trying to communicate with the kid, and eventually defeated in even trying to parent him. In his free time, he would often slip out the house and wander the streets. Occasionally this even lead to him missing single days of school. (His own memories on what he was doing then are jumbled and fuzzy, but it's highly likely he got in his own sorts of trouble then.)
His parents were declared legally dead shortly after his 10th birthday, after seven years of their disappearance, as per law . His feelings on the matter were as jumbled as what he felt when they first left him: it wasn't something he could put into words, except for a feeling of loneliness that he had been carrying longer than he realized.
The following summer, his Hogwarts Letter arrived. Upon learning of the news his aunt was joyous, happy to get rid of the trouble of being responsible for him. The few months before his departure were probably the best of his time with her, as she gave some effort into tidying him up so he looked presentable and seemed rather excited for what was to come.
Hogwarts was the first place to really provide him the care required, beyond the comfortable housing and community teaching him methods to handle his lack of a voice such as sign language. He was rather grateful that he was mostly unnoticed by his peers; it was certainly a step up from being bullied, and he was used to attending to things alone rather than with others anyways. He shone more in the following years, as more people noticed he-- well, existed-- and he proved himself as a diligent student.
Muggle-wizard relations; He remains rather neutral in the debacle, though he is under the impression that much animosity stems from both sides not communicating their concerns and justifications fluently.█ FAMILY
Dolores Alscher; mother (half-blood)
Edward Alscher; father (half-blood)
Despite his memories of them amounting to effectively none, he has a feeling they were caring people back then.
Remilia Alscher; aunt, legal guardian (half-blood)
His aunt is unmarried and seems uninterested in becoming married, stating that her dogs are all she needs in life.█ EXTRA
- His muteness is some form of Anarthia . Though canonically unknown, the cause is acquired, possibly due to mutation.
- His younger memories are pretty unclear, including the time surrounding his parents' disappearance. He's rather uninterested in drudging up old memories.
- Having no voice all of his magic usage is nonverbal , and though he is generally good at it, it remains mentally taxing at times.
- He has a few ways which he gets around his mutism;
- Sign language; something he'd learned at a young age, though it doesn't usually see constant use since most people don't understand it.
- Writing; most often, he communicates through writing, and often carries a notebook and quill for such. (He has rather clean and quick handwriting.)
- Flagrate ; quicker than writing itself as it bypasses pulling out the necessary writing equipment, he does not often make use of this as it is tiring to do so and in large unnecessary.
- Morse code; largely unused due to its nicheness, but he quite likes it as he can do so simply by tapping in rhythm.
- HOOT : he will gladly communicate through HOOT if available. (His texting speed is fast to the point it's almost scary.)
- He hopes to create a spell for telepathy someday.
- He enjoys music, and plays the flute; it's one of the few ways he is able to create sounds of his own will.
- What happens with his parents does indeed line up with theories; they sneaked out the country to help another country (the US) with conflicts, though due to border situations they will not be returning to see him for the time being.
