Description Desert version of the Cannibal mech.

Mech model created in Wings3d, Unwrapped in lightwave and textured in Photoshop.

The rest of the scene was created in Lightwave 9. Rendered with "digital confusion" post process.

::: QUESTION!! :::

Does anyone have any good tutorials or any specific info on using hypervoxels & emitters in Lightwave?? I wanted to add dust with some emitters but I can not get it to look the way I want. Plus I need more info on using them. I want to be able to create realistic smoke, dust ,explostions etc. I know there is a program called REAL FLOW.. but it costs way too much for my budget.

No prob... just stating fact. You can't beat a mecha. Unless you're Superman, but most people aren't.

Thanx man. Good idea also!!

wartistic In reply to TDBK [2006-10-08 16:03:05 +0000 UTC]

its pretty easy with photoshop.
-copy original pic in a new layer.
-add a new layer.
-go to filters and apply cloud effect.
-add layermask on your clouds layer.
-then go to paintbucket in your toolbar and switch to liniar gradient fill.
-hit d (color change to black and white or vica versa)
-now select your masklayer and fill it with the liniar gradient voila a nice smoke/fog effect.

To thicken the fog you can place a White gradient layer on top of your scene and under your fog layers dont forget to set the transparancy in your gradient.
white solid black fades to opacity 0

in your case change the colours of the clouds to a desert gradient to fit your scene, also experimenting with multiple fog layers & layer modes applied as above is writen will give some cool effects.also multiple dirt layer will give it depth.

this smoke technique i used in my warfly v2 model.
thx to phil the rodent from photoshopcafe.com who introduced me to this technique.

hope it helps cheers

you could just take the image into photoshop for the heat effects, i am sure there is some way to do it there, as for the dust, i would help, but i dun use lightwave a long arse time ago i had version 6 i think, and i was toying around with it, but thats as far as it went =/

TDBK In reply to MasterTiesel [2006-09-25 15:56:54 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, but I hate doing anything out of 3d apps. I can di it with PS I used to do that all the time. I'm trying to force myself to use effects in LW. I figure I'll get tired of no effects iin my renders and will learn eventually. Haha!

ha! Oh man...can you imagine seeing that thing if you were way dehydrated and crap in the desert! Flee for your life!

It's all 'desert storm infernal' yada yada! lmao...no...really it's awesome
Dust would look awesome in this...but we all know I'm no help in that department!
No what else would look cool (IMO)...if you could get that heat effect going...that you sometimes see on really hot pavement or above BBQs...because it would look more deserty...

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

TDBK In reply to DeverelDraws [2006-09-17 19:47:49 +0000 UTC]

Yea! Thank you! The heat effect is a good idea. I wonder if there is a way I can recreate that effect in Lightwave. I'll look into it.
