Description The Light Tank M5 (Stuart VI) differed from the M3 Stuart with a redesigned hull and less space-hogging twin Cadillac engine compared to the radial engine of the M3, but kept the same 37mm gun that by 1942 was obsolete.
Post-war some surplus Stuarts were sold to several countries, including the Chinese Nationalist Army who were supplied with surplus vehicles left behind in the Philippines by the US. Some of these M5A1 Stuarts proved instrumental in the Battle of Kuningtou in 1949, for which the tanks became known as the "Bear of Kinmen" (金門之熊).
