Description Over the weekend, one of my cousin's e-mailed me with a request to draw her a scene from Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream for a school project (due to morrow. )

She kindly provided the background which I manipped in PS, since I could NEVER do something this complicated and beautiful in the allotted time. So, from left to right, Helena and Demetrius, Puck, and Lysander and Hermia. I first drew Hermia as a blonde and Helena as a brunette, but thankfully, my cousin corrected me on that count.

very whimsical ^_^
I wonder if you could add in a filter over the people to help them blend into the background a bit, perhaps a light blue.

The rendering and clothing is simply wonderful ^_^

xD That play confused the heck out of me, since the first time I saw it was when I was 9, then again when I was a Sophomore in high school. The only thing I got? "Why the hell are Lockhart and Trelawny making out?"

I believe he stripped and jumped in the fountains with everyone else in the opening sequence of that movie, too.

Just though I'd throw that out there.

That play is trippy as heck - it's fun, but I love the snark-baiting in Much Ado about Nothing more among Shakespeare's comedies.

Well, like I said, my cousin gave me the background image - something like that would ahve taken me much, much longer to do!

haha a lot of people seem to like the picture you made for me
each person in my ap english class had to pick a different shakespeare play to do a project on (romeo & juliet and macbeth were excluded since they have already been covered in previous english classes). so we get to go over 18 different plays to prep for the ap exam.
sorry for asking you last minute and no it's not due tomorrow... it's due tuesday eheheheheh
but thank you sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo much!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I envy the kid who gets King Lear, 'cuz you can basically do a clip show of Kurosawa's Ran and get an "A" for the epic fights scenes and blood! *flails* I had to write a 100-source annotated bibliography on Lord of the Rings for my AP project! *UNFAIR*

Bitte, baby.

asian-ninja In reply to sylvacoer [2010-02-22 06:10:03 +0000 UTC]

don't remember who's doing king lear, that is if anyone picked it. i don't know if you could show a clip from the play as part of the presentation. besides the poster we have to create our own ap quality essay question and write an essay for it, complete a play analysis packet, create a test with 50+ questions, memorize and perform a monologue or dialogue (about 60 seconds long), make our own version of sparknotes, and then give a 10 minute presentation. meanwhile we still have other homework to complete at the same time. i hate ap english!!!!!!!!!!!! stupid writing...

King Lear -> [link] Awesome, awesome stuff - not nearly as bloddy as Macbeth or Titus Andronicus, but they have an eye-gouging scene.
Ran -> [link] Even though Kurosawa's best stuff is done in black-and-white, I can see why he had to go for color in this one. (And your teacher never said y'all couldn't show media portraying different interpreations of Shakespeare across the world, now did they?)

And you get to act from the play?! FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU------ WHY DIDN'T I HAVE YOUR SCHOOL'S AP ENGLISH PROGRAM?! we had to write five-page literary analysis reports on every book we read, and then do a 30-minute presentation with written synopsis analyzing a work of "modern" literature (basically, teach a class on a book we read). AND NO ACTING.

asian-ninja In reply to sylvacoer [2010-02-22 06:56:36 +0000 UTC]

well i guess you could call it acting. all we're doing is reciting a monologue dressed as the character (yes we get to used costumes). it's not something i'm looking forward to.
wow, i would have hated to have been in your ap class. 5 page analysis papers? gross
what's the point of that and 30 minute presentations?
well we don't get to read fantasy fiction like lord of the rings unfortunately

We learned how to do college-level analysis - Catholic school and all that. My teacher was a 72 year-old nun who took pride in telling us the first day of class that half of us would not be able to stick with her syllabus and would have to return to the lower ranks.

Did you act out a scene from the play? When my high school freshman class did Romeo & Juliet, each group had to do a scene, and we all had fun (I got to be Nursey!)

Yep, I was the lion in the badly performed Greek tragedy, but Austin didn't have a lion costume so I was a bear instead, we had to act it out in class that was so much fun. (cool!)
