This has been sitting around for like a month. I was really inspired by HigherDepth's Cthulhu pic... so I kinda stole his idea... yeah....
This has a lot of inspiration from Tiamat9's surrealism and my own insanity. I honestly don't know what is happening in the background... it was originally going to be so simple... you see how that worked out.... >_<* I wanted to try for a radically different Cthulhu than the one I've been drawing, some thing more primal, more bestial. His wings here are still vestigial but much larger than typically depicted. I imagine that they're meaty bones with webbing of sinew and mucus between them.

also, he's supposed to be big, but he can't be much bigger than your average kaiju since an early 1900's yacht (much smaller than a modern oil tanker as depicted) is able to spear him in the face and pop him like a zit.

True, but the way I understood it it's because he made himself small so he could crawl out of R'lyeh. He does have the ability to change his size.

Is that a cry for more faves or a lament that there should be less? o.O I'm hoping something will beat it soon. It's not necessarily bad that it has my highest number of faves, but there's something oddly discouraging when your newer work can't seem to compete with a single older piece, a piece that I think is a mess, by the way!

I think the enormous masses of dark grays/blacks kind of make Cthulhu's subtleties get lost; you should probably work on preserving more of your lighter values.

Yeah no shit. My big problem lies in that I try not to totally have my lights flat white, but I end up flat greying them by accident. I'm still getting a feel for the whole thing.

Why thank you! It takes forever though, this took me two or three days and when I was done... man did my hand hate me.... I'm still trying to learn to balance out my grey, blacks and whites, I think I overworked it here.

Well, blast my bollocks Bo, that just takes the biscuit. Probably one of my favourite pen pieces of yours so far, just because it's so damned detailed, dark and ACTION PACKED!!!! O.o When you use pretty words like "vestigial" I get all twitterpated. The veins and tentacles on the beast really add an extra bonus to the realism, making the Cthulhu look like it's writhing and thrashing in the cold waters right before my eyes. I love the angle, the perspective in this one. A bunches.

It's very very good, totally true to the original short story. Done as if it had been made when the story was written ;Black & White, Silent, with Dialog cards and an orchestrial score... it's very very good.
