It's Ash. Fighting great, old Cthulhu. I'm not totally happy with this, but if I hate to waste the effort. So I'm posting it anyway. Sometimes, even if I don't like it someone else will. If I posted everything that I thought was just right, then I wouldn't post at all, you know? I'm already hard at work on another version of this. Ash is a complete cartoon of himself. Partially intentional, but not quite the way I wanted. I'm pretty happy with the great old one, himself, though. I totally copped out on the background. Which won't happen in the next drawing, I hope. I had wanted to see how the stark black sky would work. It does and it doesn't. Yeah, I redesigned Ash a little. But I think I portrayed the design something crappy. I should ink the design sketches so you get a full idea of just what the hell I did. But, yeah. Next time will be better, so don't be surprised if I post another Ash vs. Cthulhu pic right after this.

I wanted to make a short comic out of it, create something of an ending to the Evil Dead saga out of it. An older Ash is much more interesting than the eternally youthful, spritely figure that pervades pop culture. I'm sorry, but Bruce isn't young anymore and I don't think the character is either. I should do a portrait of this Ash, so you get the full weight of his age and his grittyness, like Dark Knight Returns Ash. Hmm... Frank Miller Evil Dead... now that's something to ponder. Not the best pairing of the material, but interesting nonetheless. Ash would be like ten times more masculinely insecure and macho.
