That's what dreams are made of.

But no matter how amazing your equipment is. It's not the camera taking a good photo, it's the person behind it.
Keep it up. I guess you would even take great pictures with a camera made of pasteboard and shards of glass.

I have a little tinny Fujifilm Finepix S5800, and I want to buy a new Canon EOS 450D, what do you think?

Well, since you're an amazing photographer, and have more experience, could you tell one last thing?
I love landscape and macro photography, could you tell if is any good? Please?

If you enjoy taking landscape photos, you will need a wide angle lens [link] roductCatIndexAct&fcategoryid=151 or even an ultra wide angle [link] roductCatIndexAct&fcategoryid=148 to make the most out of each shoot. The best way of capturing fine close-up details is by using a specialized macro [link] roductCatIndexAct&fcategoryid=155 lens.

If you'd read the artist's comments you would have seen this:

"Canon PowerShot Elph S100 (used to take this photo) "

The point of this deviation is the list.

I notice you use Tiffen lens filters. Is that a simple preference? Or are they the best in your opinion? I have a few Hoyas and a few no-names off eBay.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

SOOPER In reply to ByronGiant [2009-06-07 17:56:03 +0000 UTC]

I also use some Hoya and Canon filters as well. However, I find good value in Tiffen filters and polarizers which render the same high quality image output... So I guess it's just personal preference.

but im not really rich, so is there any great lenses/filters for quite cheap? or any other equipment?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

SOOPER In reply to camera-addiction [2009-06-07 17:59:19 +0000 UTC]

There are certain good value lenses out there but usually with limitations to their capabilities. Specialized lenses and filters may be expensive compared to others for general use, but you get what you paid for.

I am thinking about buying a digital slr. Any suggestions for a first time buyer? I want to be able to do animals (work at a zoo), and stars (so I don't lose all that astronomy I learned). I also might be a complete neophyte at this, but I am planning on taking classes at the community college down the road (in which I will need an slr for the class, and I might as well get a good one).

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

SOOPER In reply to ejjury [2009-04-21 17:54:35 +0000 UTC]

That depends on your budget... the Canon Digital Rebel series are all very nice cameras for beginners. However, if you would like a larger SLR body try the Canon EOS 40D or 50D (which are semi-pro series). You can find these available with standard zoom kit lenses, but I would suggest getting something more specific for each type of photography.

For most wildlife photography, a zoom of 200-300mm works well (particularly if you work at a zoo). As for your interest in astronomy, you may need something with even more zoom power. There's a large selection of lenses from Canon and other manufacturers. I prefer original Canon lenses since they usually have better performance, but keep in mind that certain lenses could cost more than the price of a SLR camera body.

You can read more about Canon's SLR systems and lenses at their website: [link] roductCatIndexAct&fcategoryid=111 Let me know if you still need more help once you have narrowed your choices.

don't take this the wrong way, but 8,000$ for ONE camera?! The only way I could ever rationalize that to myself would be if I was a professional photographer who made lots and lots of money a year...I just spent 500-ish$ on my nikon d40 (which I'm in love with, btw) and it was hard for me to spend that much.
Your photos are gorgeous, and I mean absolutely no disrespect-it's your money, your cameras, and your beautiful photos...I was just astounded at the price.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

SOOPER In reply to Amberpants08 [2009-04-03 08:45:47 +0000 UTC]

Why would I take the wrong way? There are people spending more money on drugs, alcohol, cigarettes, etc.

bread-doh In reply to SOOPER [2009-05-16 23:59:57 +0000 UTC]

damn right... even cigarettes weekly expense can reach about 20$ in my country

ahh, i wish i could buy a slr, analog one is okay,
having a EOS might be only a dream, but I'll try to chase it(well I'm a very varied artist, though maybe i wouldn't get focused on one art subject, but definitely i want to learn it all)

Amberpants08 In reply to SOOPER [2009-04-03 17:14:30 +0000 UTC]

Great equipment!

I am saving for my first canon right now but i still dont know wich one i better buy, do you have any tips for a beginner on wich camera i should buy?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

SOOPER In reply to AntonellaB [2009-02-01 02:42:32 +0000 UTC]

That depends on your budget and what kind of photos you enjoy taking. If you are just starting and would like something basic, any of the Canon's EOS Digital Rebel XT or XS series would be good. If you would like something more advanced, then you should check out Canon's EOS 40D or 50D (these two are often used by professionals as their back up cameras). In the event that money isn't an issue, look into Canon's new EOS 5D Mark II (this would be what most studio and/or landscape photographers would use). For optimum performance and digital technology, Canon offers their pro-series EOS 1D and 1Ds Mark III versions (these would be preferred bodies by serious photographers in a variety of industries).

Once you have selected a body, then you must decide which kind of lenses you'll need to capture the images you seek.

mental3pal [2009-01-15 23:10:25 +0000 UTC]

How big are your 5 in 1 reflectors?
And whats your preference between the monopod and tripod?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

SOOPER In reply to mental3pal [2009-02-01 02:58:44 +0000 UTC]

Those reflectors have a diameter of 21 inches (61 cm). I use the tripod for a variety of shoots: portraits, architecture, landscapes, macros, long exposures, HDR images, etc. For sporting events or any types of action shots (including wildlife) I prefer to have my telephoto zoom lens on a monopod.

When it comes to monopods vs. tripods, there's no comparison. They are totally different tools for different situations. For absolute stability, there's nothing that beats having a reliable tripod on location. For mobility and extra weight support, monopods are definitely more efficient.

Wow, I have a small digital camera but no weather proof lenses. I don't think I could use them on it. But I do so wish to take winter shots, etc.. What do you recommend for a beginner to use outdoors?
