Description ARCTIAS
  • Faction: Global Defense Force
  • The iron rule of the Fair Folk was not without its dissenters. Among these were the moth-like aurora sprites of the far north, who worshipped the majestic Arctias as a goddess. Though dismayed at humanity's conflict with the fairies, she and her followers have retained the belief that man is capable of great as well as terrible things, and that he does not deserve to be totally exterminated. Now that the second invasion threatens the entire world, Arctias has taken the side of the human race in the hopes that it can set right what once went horribly wrong. Her first order of business: stop Titania from kicking off a new reign of terror…
  • A slow-moving monster of about average health who can barely walk, let alone jump or climb. She makes up for it with impressive stamina, especially in the air; though a comparatively slow flyer (though that isn't saying much, as she just barely loses in the air to Preytor), she's capable of staying airborne the longest. Though her melee damage is average and her reach very poor, she is far more capable in terms of ranged combat and uses very little energy for her wingbeats, ranged attacks, and specials.
    • Basic ranged: Fires aurora-like energy beams from her antennae (two at a time).
    • Short-range special: Scatters icy scales from her wings. For a short time period she will emit a blizzard-like trail that remains hovering over the ground for a short period; if used while stationary the flurry can quickly spread outwards and break up groups of enemies. Monsters that come into contact with the blizzard are slowed and covered in frost, taking gradual cold damage and becoming more vulnerable to ice attacks. They also have their energy reduced as long as they are in contact with it, eventually becoming unable to perform attacks or specials.
    • Main special: Hurls forth a magnetic, aurora-like energy blast. This projectile travels in a straight line but pulls in anything near enough that's not secured to the ground as it goes: minions, vehicles, monsters, even power-ups. Once it travels far enough or hits any terrain object, it explodes; enemies caught in the blast take heavy frost damage and are thrown into the air. It also detonates if it hits any enemy monster directly - if the target is close enough, this can harm Arctias herself as well. Unlike other specials or ranged attacks, the blast does not depend on the lock-on targeter and can be aimed up or down to hit flying enemies or monsters below her.
  • Arctias draws strength from all kinds of energy-based attacks, gaining energy from any damage that isn't physical in nature, such as flames, electricity, explosions, beams, frost, sound waves, or radiation. She is resistant to cold and lightning attacks, taking reduced damage from freezing or electrocution, but weak to heat and toxins, taking extra damage from being burned or poisoned.
  • By holding the jump button, Arctias, like Titania, can ascend gradually as long as she has energy, though she will gently glide back down to the ground in a helpless state if she runs out. Unlike Titania, however, she does not hover, and instead walks on the ground, leaving her vulnerable to ground-based hazards like Amphibios' electric puddles or Chelab's webbing. She also takes a flight speed penalty due to getting her wings wet when knocked into deep water, hit by a water attack, or exposed to rain, snow, or acid rain.
  • Like Raptros and Teryx, Arctias can carry an enemy monster or two-handed object into the air if she's grabbed or pinned them by mashing or holding the jump button; this uses up energy at a slower rate than other fliers, so she can carry objects for much longer while in the air. Dropping a weight deals fall damage to a captive enemy monster and hurts any monsters or minions below as though it were thrown at them. She uses her long, curling proboscis to pick up one-handed objects, but grabs larger things like boulders or enemy monsters by grappling them with all of her legs and hovering.
  • Arctias takes reduced damage from any aerial minion or vehicle, including jets, helicopters, UFOs, Hornets, Pterodactyls, or drones. If she manages to grab smaller minions or vehicles in mid-air, she can also use them as weapons.
  • Default Roar: Sounds of Pedoleon ( Ultraman) (echoey with sparkling SFX)
  • Alternate Skins:
    • Imperial (recolor)
    • Atropos - Higher-pitched roar
    • Scarab Beetle - Sounds of Megalon  (higher-pitched)
    • Devil Fish - Sounds of Raiga ( Deep Sea Monster Raiga)
    • Mothman - Same as Scarab Beetle, but lower-pitched and echoey

Oh wow, I didn't even know Devil Manta was a thing before I looked it up just now! The concept looks pretty neat, and reminds me of a defunct kaiju design I once thought of based on a similar concept! The single artwork of the titular monster even has the same spikes I put on the skin, though that was largely coincidental. Still, let's just go with it being an homage to that movie idea! XD

Atropos: Based on the Death's Head moth?
Scarab: Perhaps based on Khepri from Smite and the various giant bug heroes from WoW?
Devil Fish: Name is that of the old monster that was the precursor to Sharktopus, design might be based on that book called Natural Selection with killer manta rays?
Mothman: Rather obvious

Arctias' first three color schemes are actually based on three different real-life moths: Actias luna (the Luna moth; her name is a portmonteau of Arctic and Actias, in fact), Eacles imperialis (the imperial moth), and Acherontia atropos (the death's head hawk moth, meaning your guess was correct, though a bit of Battra did slip in as well).

The main inspiration for the Scarab skin was indeed SMITE's Khepri (as you noted) as well as Megalon. The mythological Khepri may be a more appropriate comparison though - the glowing abdomen, aside from being taken from fireflies, references the sun which Khepri rolls across the sky each day.

Devil Fish is meant as a general manta ray monster, and the name actually is a nickname for manta rays as well - just be glad I didn't go with Sea Pancake for the skin name . And I did look up that book, and wow, I didn't know that was a thing, so thanks for the recommendation (even if it wasn't intentional)!

Mothman's typical look was somewhat dull visually, so I spruced it up by giving it elements of the statue of the critter from Point Pleasant, West Virginia. That one looks pretty shredded if you ask me.

Well, the atropos skins makes me think on Belzebub

The nod to Mothra is self-explanatory with this design, but in truth I simply needed another ice monster and the first thing I thought of was those moths that live in the Arctic tundra. I realize now that her being both ice-based and aerial smacks of Teryx a lot, so I made her powers dramatically different. Teryx is mostly an air-to-surface fighter, but Arctias can handle other fliers better.
