There's something beautiful, and at the same time melancholic, about the way that dark blue text glows in this darkness of a Swowdin Forest night. It's a perfect design for this certain moment between aware Sans and unaware Toriel.

Awww.... Sans looks so sad in this picture. I suppose when your timeline is constantly being pulled back and reset, and you know that nothing you ever do will be permanent, you would feel sort of depressed. Maybe even a little lazy. It could even get to the point where you're cracking jokes to make yourself feel a little better, and you put on a smile so that others won't worry about you as much. Maybe you're the only one who knows that there are many timelines, ones where everyone dies, ones where you lose the one person you cared for the most, ones where everyone is happy, and ones where everyone is still trapped. You might even find that these resets make it "kinda hard to give it your all". Well, that's my impression of the situation anyway. When I think about it, I start to wonder if Sans is actually depressed... I'm sure that some of his comical behavior is actually a part of his personality, but he says some things that subtly hint at another more somber side to him. I feel a bit sad just thinking about it.

It may be a bit sad, but at least there's a lot of depth to his character. I still wish that there was some way to make him feel better though if what I said is the case. At least I can take comfort in the fact that my game won't be reset or have a Genocide done on it. I won't put him through that on my watch. Flowey can say what he wants about me. What about you? Did you attempt it? I don't judge others who might take that path, don't worry.

I personally think that he is depressed yeah. I like other interpretations too but given the fight in the no mercy run I really feel that that fits him.
