Description
This is actually a twin drawing of Hermione and Ron. I completed Hermione first and decided to upload it. I have increased the contract a bit to hide the glares from the scan as it is not sprayed yetPencils used:- B, 2B and 4B mechanical pencils.
Bristol smooth paper.

WOW!!! this is really nice. i love the eyes and the intense look on her face. i also think that the shading is really well done!! THe hair also looks great especially the way that you can see the shine. one critisisme is that i couln't really tell that his was of hermione just by the drawing. and also her left eye looks a little cross eyed. i think that this is a really nice drawing and that the detail that has been put into it is really great!! Thanks a lot for taking the time to write critique on this one. I have done quite a few Harry Potter drawings already. I am going to do Ron and that will be the last of them. I will try to fix the other eye.

Hey Shone, you know me I been an admirer of yours for awhile checking all your stuff everytime. I have a question. You note which pencils you use and the paper, but how do you get the black so black in the background? You're not using photoshop at all for that part?

Hi James, I use an 2B mechanical pencil on a bristol smooth/vellum paper to draw the dark areas. I press hard and dig into the paper and the paper is think enough to handle it. I do a very small portion (like an inch) at a time and once that area is dark enough I move on to the adjacent area. But the drawing is not as smooth and spotlessly black as here. I increase the contrast a bit to remove the glare from the scan. However the original drawing is fairly black.

Okay makes sense, the drawings I do Bristol look dark, but when I scan still show up gray and shiny in some areas.

oh and one more thing. If you use a fixative, then the dark areas will look more darker and less shiny.
