Description This is page 9 of Doctor Who: Fade Away by my talented pal and collaborator Paul Hanley (story, colors, and lettering) and myself (pencils and inks). It is our (very fond) farewell to Nicholas Courtney. The final page. So now you all know what I've known since I first opened Paul's script a few months ago. It's a bit timey-wimey. Thanks everybody for all of your kind comments and s.

This was easily one of the most enjoyable experiences I've had working in comics. So thanks, Paul for writing it and for never letting me be lazy about it. You're a gentleman and scholar.

Paul's commentary: The final and slightly timey-wimey page. Art by my talented bud and collaborator Shawn Van Briesen , story, colors, and lettering by me.

A huge thanks to Shawn for drawing this so splendidly, and to all the kind comments and faves we've been getting.

If you've enjoyed this and feel like leaving a "tip", let me point ya here, to a very worthy charity in Mr. Courtney's name: [link]

Shawn and I will be back later this summer with an 8th Doctor strip, "The Doctor & I"- the strangest and most unexpected multi-Doctor story ever told...

AND even sooner I'll have something 100% by me, an illustrated story with the 6th Doctor and Evelyn Smythe: "All Your Planet Are Belong to Us"!

Infinitely better than what's actually in the show. I'd actually consider LIKING Dr. Who if it was like this.

Just...just wow. Loved every bit of this.

One question though, the final pic, with 11 and the Brig in them, is that supposed to be his wedding or something like that?

Yes. That's what The Doctor meant by saying he would see him again.

Masterful. Simply masterful. Sad, poignent, yet satisfying and fullfiling. I get the feeling The Doctor wanted to order one more beer just to make it last longer, but alas. We all know how it turns out. This is one of the best tributes I have had the privilige of reading and you people deserve an award for your work.

Hah! I love that end pic.

But, darnit! You made me cry!

How is it that two men who I never met, who never existed, can mean so much to me?

Maybe everything about them has just been a story, but somewhere, way down at heart level, it's been real.

Wonderful artwork, wonderful story. I could hear the Brigadier's voice all through that, just like Nicholas Courtney was narrating it.

Great tribute, thank you.

ShawnVanBriesen In reply to Betawhofic [2012-08-17 00:30:09 +0000 UTC]

Thank you. It was very sad. Paul and I really wanted to give the Brig a decent send off. By all accounts, from what people have said and comment like yours, I believe we did just that. We are now attempting that with Sarah Jane in our new project. Sarah Jane Smith: Final Report. [link]

It's like Ood Sigma said. '--but, the story never ends.'

This is really really good

Pity the Brig never appeared in Doctor Who after all these years, aside from a brief return to the Doctor Who universe in the Sarah Jane Adventures

This is a great tribute to the Brigadier and Nick himself. Pity it's not featured in a past issue of Doctor Who Magazine, I'm sure many of nicks family, friends and fan's would love to have seen this in the mag

Thank you. I'm glad you liked it. It was published in a fanzine called Fanwnak (yes, its spelled like that) last year. And it's gotten a good deal of notice online. DWM would've been nice. I did give a copy of of it Sophie Aldred the other day. We were both guests at Sci-fi convention locally. Paul and I are currently working on a companion piece to this with Sarah Jane also as charity for cancer book.

Good luck thou with the Sarah Jane Smith one. I look forward to it

I've heard stories about that. That Patrick did that purposefully. Jon used to leave cheat sheets around the set to remember his lines and Patrick would mischievously hide them.
