And the horns resemble headdress "kokoshnik" which were worn women in medieval Russia [link]

Whoa. That's some serious sexual dimorphism! Must've taken a lot of energy to build those antlers and massive-looking body. I wonder if only certain (lush?) environments allow cervids to achieve such mass?

RomanYevseyev In reply to deathmango [2012-04-15 19:04:16 +0000 UTC]

Well, this sexual dimorphism is normal for deers [link] By the autumn the males become massive almost in twice. During this period the males become strong and aggressive, and fight among themselves for females till drop.

Your link shows a very good illustration of the size difference between the sexes (red deer, I presume?). You also include some great information in your replies to Zimices and Leggurm. Now I'm hoping you do an image of Eucladoceros some day.

Wondeful image. Then, do you think that Sinomegaceros is a genus appart of Megaloceros?

Thanks
Recently, these deers is considered as a subgenus of Megaloceros. As the Asian branch of the genus, in opposition to the European.
