Description Also another Late Miocene experiment of the nature of testing the model saber-toothed cats. Previously closely associated with Nimravidae and Felidae, Barbourofelidae form a separate family, whose position in the taxonomy is not installed properly.

The B. lovei and the B. fricki is about the same size, but in the B. fricki skull is larger in relation to the body, and he composed a little harder, though short-legged.

Applicable height of these predators around 60 - 70 cm at the withers. To my knowledge, has not found any more or less complete skeleton of the Barbourofelis.
