Thank you!
I don't know what I did before I discovered oils--they are the best medium out there as far as I'm concerned.

Have you tried the computer programs that mimic paints like oil? I haven't yet, but I hear they are still pretty fun to play with even if they are not exactly the same thing.

Yes, I have. I have painter classic on my computer (will probably be uprgrading to 8 at some point) and I had a trial version of openCanvas for a while, but that expired. I'll probably buy the full version when I get my next paycheck.
oC is extremely fun, and very user-friendly. It works great with a tablet if you have one, and works well with just a mouse, too. It's also pretty affordable for the full version (about $70), especially when you consider that most art/graphics apps are upwards of a few hundred dollars.
It's not the same thing as actual oil painting, but still a great deal of fun, and you can get some pretty good results. introduced me to it. Not sure if you've seen her stuff, but she does some pretty wonderful things in oC.

Meh. I feel stupid! Ignore that first reply. I have so many different cat skeleton pieces, I got them mixed up. Sorry! I'm not at my best today.
Thanks for the comments on the line work in this painting. This one was one of those paintings that started out as a sketch for a more fully rendered piece, but I ended up deciding that the expressiveness of the sketch was successful, so I expanded on that instead of doing careful shading.
Sorry about that first reply--it probably made no sense!

Thanks!
The excercise was to do a line drawing, with no shading, so I had to rely very heavily on linework to convey form and value. I think that the linework is one of the reasons I still like this drawing, even though there are some obvious flaws in the anatomy.
