Description Anyone noticing a theme with my stuff yet?

Ok, this isn't really all I do, I promise. This is just my favorite stuff. Oil paint is my main love, and weird, creepy animal skeletons are one of my other loves.

This one is huge too--at least five feet high, probably closer to six. Can't remember the dimensions offhand, only that it was a bitch to stretch and gesso.

The full view is crappy, because the image quality is not so great. I will try again at some point to get a better picture of this behemoth.

More fabulous praise from Syxx! I feel like I've won the lottery!

Thank you for the !
Oils are my true love. They're so much fun to work with, and they often seem to have a personality and life of their own. Do you ever use them in your work (forgive me for not getting over to see all of your gallery yet--I've looked through your recent pieces, though!)? If not, you should!

Youre entirely welcome

I used to use oils quite a bit to make cels - you know like in ainmation. I made quite a few Batman related characters sheets and storyboard themed cels. I got impatient with how long it takes to dry. I enver got into it enough, i might pick it up again in the future. Possibly on my university course since we'll be doing animation later this year.

(and dont worry about getting through my gallery - it aint ging nowhere LOL!)

The colors in this one are what caught my eye first. Great work! It's really strong with not only the colors, but also with the composition and line work. Very beautiful piece! I love oils too.

Thank you!
I don't know what I did before I discovered oils--they are the best medium out there as far as I'm concerned.

Have you tried the computer programs that mimic paints like oil? I haven't yet, but I hear they are still pretty fun to play with even if they are not exactly the same thing.

Yes, I have. I have painter classic on my computer (will probably be uprgrading to 8 at some point) and I had a trial version of openCanvas for a while, but that expired. I'll probably buy the full version when I get my next paycheck.
oC is extremely fun, and very user-friendly. It works great with a tablet if you have one, and works well with just a mouse, too. It's also pretty affordable for the full version (about $70), especially when you consider that most art/graphics apps are upwards of a few hundred dollars.
It's not the same thing as actual oil painting, but still a great deal of fun, and you can get some pretty good results. introduced me to it. Not sure if you've seen her stuff, but she does some pretty wonderful things in oC.

Meh. I feel stupid! Ignore that first reply. I have so many different cat skeleton pieces, I got them mixed up. Sorry! I'm not at my best today.

Thanks for the comments on the line work in this painting. This one was one of those paintings that started out as a sketch for a more fully rendered piece, but I ended up deciding that the expressiveness of the sketch was successful, so I expanded on that instead of doing careful shading.

Sorry about that first reply--it probably made no sense!

Thanks!
The excercise was to do a line drawing, with no shading, so I had to rely very heavily on linework to convey form and value. I think that the linework is one of the reasons I still like this drawing, even though there are some obvious flaws in the anatomy.

Awww, thanks! This painting is up in the dining room in my house. Hehe. He makes some of our dinner guests a wee bit nervous.
