Description Here is a detail of the skull.

Gotta love that macro function!

*edit* finally got a flash-free image! Shot on my front porch today, while the sun was shining.

This is very pretty. I love the coloration you chose, the orange really stands out. And it's all proportioned very well. I really like the highlights, they make it look really realistic.

Thank you!
That orange is my all time favorite color to use. If you ever get into oil painting, you should check it out. Cadmium orange is the name of the color, and it is totally electrifying to use. It's almost the color of Tang.

What a wonderfully insightful comment! I really appreciate these--they mean you're looking very closely and observing what's in front of you. That's awesome.

I was never fond of orange when it's just orange, but mixed with the dark, but still vibrant, background, it really does fit and look good.

Great to see some quality painting in the often so digital community,
I have been cruising through your gallery all morning and must say I am very impressed
could have fav'd a lot of images - but don't wanna come across like a stalker! hehehehe

One tip - take your photos of your work without a flash - maybe outside (that's what I often do
taking advantage of natural light) - other than that - wow- I love the paintings...

 Wow! Thank you! Don't worry about coming across as a stalker--I wouldn't consider that stalking. Thank you for faving as many as you did!

I am having a busy day at work, and can't reply to all your lovely comments or look at more of your gallery, but I will be able to in a few hours.

Thank you for the tip on the flash! Natural light wasn't available when I took this, and I was being an impatient lazy arse when I submitted this. If the light's good this weekend, I will defintely resubmit a better photgraph of this one and some of the others that got eaten by the evil flash monster.

I work here: [link]

Basically, I inspect incoming and outgoing diamonds and diamond/gemstone jewelry and make sure that it is up to our standards. I'm in training to be a diamond specialist, but I do the job of one already. (and that in itself is a long story)

The work is alright, the pay could be better, but most of all, I'm thankful just to have a job, because the economy here is not so hot. I wish to god I had an art-related job, but I know it will happen someday. If I don't go mad from the tedium of this job first.

Looking forward to more submissions/..

I wish I'd been to Amsterdam. That would definitely reduce the suckitude.

I can tell you plenty of stories. Note me, or I can note you, whenever you feel ready for "Storytime with Rachel"

Story time with Rachel -- sounds like a lost Friends episode,...
you can email me whenever you feel like it. - Man, they should pay you for a trip to Amsterdam, diamant capital of the world... We are going there in October - will see if I can take some photos of the diamond places!

Have fun when you go.

We get a lot of diamonds directly from vendors in Amsterdam. They SHOULD send there, but they won't... Cheap, moneygrubbing bastards...

Have fun when you go, and yes! Take lots of pictures. I can't wait to see them.

It's been years since I visited Europe. I need to go back.

Where did ya go in Europe? Any photos??

rgyoung In reply to eRiQ [2004-03-29 03:36:42 +0000 UTC]

Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. I was 14. Took a ton of pictures, most of which are embarrassingly crappy. But I will sift through them to see if there's anything worth sharing.

Hmmm... Long story short...
My Grandfather is a Baptist Minister (and I am his lone heathen granddaughter). Occaisionally, he will fill in as a pastor for a church that needs it. He's served as a temporary pastor in Japan, Alaska, Hawaii, and a few other places, including Germany. I went to visit him and my grandmother in Germany while they were there, and we travelled a bit. All of the travelling was done by car, so naturally, we only drove to places that were relatively close to Kitzingen (am Main... there are two Kitzingens in Germany, I guess).

Switzerland was on the list because there was some huge religious conference there. I had to go to a bible camp while my Grandma and Grandpa went to this conference. That was the only part of the trip I could have done without. Breathtaking locale, but I was incredibly lonely.

I will have to go to Holland the next time I go to Europe. And there will be a next time. It's too cool a place for there not to be.

yeah,.. well .. somehow you and bible camp just don't seem to rhyme...
Sounds like an interesting journey though! Good story too -

You will love it in Europe... again, next time...
