I've decided I really need to start painting more fairies, so I'm starting a new series of fairies with a gemstone theme.This is the Tanzanite Fairy. Tanzanite is a pretty new stone and has been officially made a new birthstone for the month of December. Which made my Mom really happy since she LOVES tanzanite, and has a birthday in December.
I love the lilac colors of tanzanite myself, and those delicate, Amy Brown style wings are really fun to paint!
The model reference is from the beautiful stock of and will be entered into their great Fairy contest. Wish me luck!

I love the colors you used. This is probably my favorite of the bunch, mostly because of the shapes in the wings. Great job on the folds, I know how hard those are to get right.

Nice. This dress isn't as poofy as the others. It befits an elegant, playful muse. I could definitely see this as an underwater dress.

Thank you, I'm glad you like it! I actually find I tend to think of my subjects as moving underwater when I paint, underwater movement is always so graceful... and a poofy dress definitely wouldn't work here.

Thanks! I painted Tanzanite because my Mom is completely in love with the stone, and she's a December baby. I'll be painting Blue Topaz really soon, she'll have an "ice princess" theme. Yep, this is done in watercolor, it's the only type of paintings I do at the moment.

i wanna learn to do watercolor proper. i've done an awful one recently, but i enjoyed the proces. thugh i only had sketch pad paper, so it was somewhat disasterous lol i have lotsa acrylic paints, but i suck at those too lol i have an oil painting i started from a kit, but i havent finished it cuz i'm really bad with blending colors, so i've been putting it off lol

Lol, watercolors on sketch paper can be pretty messy! It's a lot easier to use watercolor paper, you can pick up some really inexpensive watercolor paper pads at some stores. I have to order the high-grade Arches paper I use online, since I'm nowhere near an art store, so I keep a pad of cheapie stuff from Wal-Mart on hand for fanart and stuff. It's great for experiments and practice!

i'd love to get some, though it's not in the budget right now. i'm not really good at anything anyways. cant do form, i stink at shading. so cheapy paper it will have to be, for me to practice my circles and squares lol

My best friend adores tanzanite, she has quiet a few tanzanite things. She got envious of her brother who's birthday is in December, we're both born in October so we have pink tourmaline and Opals (which are so pretty).
