Description

Not an hour since a grueling battle that claimed the lives of superheroes Blue Beetle and Booster Gold, their partners in the Justice League, who were holding a small service for them at the Fortress of Solitude, were attacked by the Shadowpact! Superman demanded Doctor Fate, the leader of the Shadowpact, tell him who they are and what they want. They explained themselves and said that they’re here for Superman’s son Connor Kent, who was secretly the Justice League member Steel. Superman asked Steel if this was true, and Steel took off the helmet to his armor, revealing that he, indeed, was Superman’s teenaged son Connor. Dr. Fate told him of a vision he foresaw where the Syndicate, using Connor as the catalyst, used a superweapon to take over Earth, and then the rest of the universe, to impose their twisted sense of justice upon an unsuspecting populace. They don’t know what exactly the weapon is, but the Shadowpact must kill Connor Kent before the Syndicate can capture him. Connor stepped forward to refuse going down without a fight, but Dr. Fate touched him on his bare forehead to show him something… that Connor’s existence is some kind of chronological anomaly, and that his father somehow brought him into a new existence when he died in a previous version of history. Connor was so shaken by this that he exploded his armor pieces off in a bout of electromagnetic fury before passing out. Superman and the rest of the League charged the Shadowpact… but were caught in a stasis field… conjured by Zatanna. That’s when they realized that their teammate Zatanna was working for Dr. Fate this whole time, and the Shadowpact unleashed the full force of their magic on the team. The League busted out of stasis and the brawl was under way! In the end, however, both teams were too weak to stop Owlman and Superwoman, members of the Syndicate, from teleporting in, grabbing Connor Kent, dropping a mysterious device, and teleporting away. The device expanded into a series of tendrils that attacked both the Justice League and the Shadowpact, crucially injuring Zatanna. Dr. Fate disappeared with the rest of the Shadowpact to both tend to Zatanna’s injuries and contemplate their next move, leaving the JL to deal with the device. The machine retracted and morphed into a humanoid form with color and a human brain in a case in the skull. The machine, rather the human brain controlling the machine, introduced itself as an associate of the Syndicate… Professor Anthony Ivo!

* The two new members of the Shadowpact you see here are Todd Scott and Barnabus.
** Barnabus, the chimpanzee, is a Homo magi animal with high intelligence, capacity for human speech, and powerful magic skills. He is based on Detective Chimp.
** Todd Scott is the son of Alan Scott, a member of the 50s-60s era social reform group known as the Justice Society of America. As a Homo magi, Todd is a teacher at Dr. Fate’s school and has magic control over shadows (like his apprentice Eve Helstrom, a recent recruit into the Shadowpact). He has a sister named Jennifer-Lynn. Todd is based on the character of Obsidian.
