Description We rushed through the trees like October breezes, silent or cackling as the mood took us. What joy, what wonder, to tumble like leaves in our little forest, to dance like lunatics and sing like larks. Under the starlight, we spun, drunk on last year's wine and next year's promise. We knew our time was short, that our end was near after all these endless aeons and rolling seasons, so we danced in the hope that our footprints would echo through the earth for ages to come. A careless twig snapped, and we scattered away from the sight of the lonely mortal, the first of many whose names would spell our demise. We didn't have long, perhaps a few centuries at best, but by the Seasons, we would lead a merry chase!

It's odd, I'm not often drawn to Elves as a race. They're lovely, marvelous, but often cold, their flame burns low for all that it burns long. At least in the things I read. I'm more drawn to dwarves and other mortal races, who pack their short span with passion and movement. Somehow, though, this bracelet just seems to scream both 'masculine' and 'elven' to me. (Even though it's made of steel, and fae folk are said to dislike iron.) Not Elves in the Tolkien sense, I think, but the faeries of legend and lore that have faded as humanity gains in strength. It seems sort of tragic to me that as we gain science, we lose sight of what makes this world magical. There's a Pearl Jam song that puts it quite well- [link] "I'm Open".

The stone is actually an iridescent, watery green, somehow making the piece seem warmer. I'm sort of enjoying the idea of 'reversed' cuffs, with the opening on the top of your arm rather than underneath.

This one is the prototype, and so is not for sale, but I'll be experimenting with this design and hopefully I'll have at least a few made for the craft show in March. I'm thinking that pendants are great, and I'll surely make plenty of those, but more emphasis on rings and bracelets night earn me a few extra sales. (Fingers crossed, anyway. )

Interesting. This reminds me of I book I have read, it was to tell about the different type of fae.
I agree with you. It does seem that way. Perhaps that is why I tend to be so obsessed with symbols and such, because I think that they have a power all of their own. (But that could just mean I am obsessed with power...) After all, what comes to mind when I say heart? Not the body organ (most of the time) but love, passion, and things like that. If you look around you there are so many symbols out there.... I dunno what I even want to say anymore.

Too nifty! They make wonderful pins, it's fun to pose them so that they look like they're climbing up your clothing.

Hmm... I need to have another kiriban whatsit...

This picture isn't the best in terms of displaying your work, but the bracelet itself is beautiful! I love how I can tell which works are yours within a group because of the style all the swirls and that way you have of weaving a cage around stones.

I believe you've made my day. It's not that I go out of my way to have my own style, but it means a lot to me that you find my work recognizable as mine.

I agree, the photo isn't the best, in fact is was the best of a lot of them and I still couldn't adjust the blue out of it. But it was ridiculously cold outside, and I wasn't staying out there any longer than I had to. I don't have a decent light set-up for indoor photography, so I did what I could with the natural light and the awkwardness of taking photos of my own hand. (This bracelet just doesn't look the same when not worn.) Ah well, it's a learning process, right?

btw, in some ways this piece reminds me of the most recent one you made me. and the opening in the bracelet totally conforms nicely to the vectors of the hand.

Oh! Speaking of, I've been getting compliments on the one you sent me. I thought I should tell you that people like your work. (One of my regular customers saw it and said, "That is really pretty! But it... doesn't look like your style of work..." )

I think I'm in a swooping-curve phase for some of my larger things.

sometimes I think I just live in the wrong darn city for this stuff. I probably have gotten about ... one or two comments ever in the past year on my work, and nothing on the lovely work of my friends. It's dismaying as anything! That's why I haven't bothered to stock up business cards. But I'm glad to know my work is liked elsewhere! And as long as you like it, that's what matters most heheh!

I adore it! This is a pretty interesting area as far as art appreciation goes. Northeastern Ohio has a number of colleges, and galleries and museums, and Kent especially seems like a good place for art students and artists (There's a yearly event, Art in the Park, that I would love to get into, but it's $100 to get in and it's a juried event, they pick and choose who gets in. Fingers crossed I can make enough t craft shows between here and there!)

Hey there!

I keep meaning to come online and say hi, but I've been super super busy. This is awesome! A new favourite, I dig the reversed opening. I agree about the elves though. Conceited lofty bitches, most them heheh, but nice sense of style. Dwarves kick way more arse!

I will get your pendant in the mail soon, gah. The unemployment people have weeks behind on paying me and my food stamps were cut off randomly, so I'm a bit strapped for cash (more than usual).

K.

A number of folks seem to be going through government-spawned issues at the moment. I hope things get better quickly for you!

I'm going to be trying to make more of these, but I tried a version in copper that failed due to the relative softness compared to steel. Brass may work better, but I haven't tried it yet. This thing is so comfy to wear, the reversed opening means no pinching when I bend my hand, and less snagging on clothes when digging through pockets. Now I just need to remember exactly how I did it the first time!

Dwarves rock! Battle skills, craft skills, (in most tales) longer lives than humans, but still mortal... Although gnomes are fun too (if dangerous to be around).

brass is ... springy. I imagine the steel would be the best choice! Although, I've made copper pieces that are left open underneath ... so I suppose it would work with any metal if the weight and balance was right.

Thank you so much! I just went to Lowe's today, spent $37 on shiny things to use in jewelery. I haven't been to Michael's in half of forever, but I doubt I'd be able to walk away with less than $30 worth of stuff and three months' worth of ideas. *sigh* Me and shiny things. Fingers crossed that the craft show goes well, I would love to actually make a living doing this stuff! (Or at least have some spare cash, anyway.)
