"I'll see you soon, my love." - Fergus Cousland

We're heading into Cousland spoiler territory… if you haven't played Dragon Age Origins and you still need to do the human noble origin, stop reading.

I remember reading the Diary of Anne Frank a while ago, and relating to my husband how sad it was that the entire family perished in the concentration camps except for the father. His comment to me was something along the lines of, "That is the worst thing that can happen to a man. To fail his family, to outlive his wife and daughters... I can't imagine anything more horrible."

Fergus may have the saddest story in the whole Cousland origin for just that reason. He is prepared to leave and fight and possibly die to defend the land where, presumably, his wife (and the rest of his family) would still raise his son. He couldn't possibly be prepared to learn what he did later on, and live with that.

A note on the art, I was watching the origin for costume references and I realized I drew Oren much shorter and younger looking than how he is portrayed in the game. I feel like his voice actor plays him much younger, though, so I don't think this is too inaccurate. I think it's more likely that they have a "one size fits all" child model and no matter how old the character is, you get that size child. He is roughly the height of a ten or twelve year old, I think, but sounds to me like a five or six year old boy. So that's how I drew him.

Also drawing a little boy looking straight up like that is hella hard.
