hey again! its kk. this is soooo pretty, and really realistic. i think the tears of blood look great, they are coole.deviantart.net/emoticons/s/s… " width="15" height="15" alt="" title=" (Smile)"/> the hearts and pearls look awesome!! once again, i think foundation would have helped under the eye going on to the cheek. also i would have added a little bit of lavender in the iris.
the blood stained bow is a nice touch.
well there is a 100 word minimum so idk what 2 write so...

Hello again.

The messy make-up creates an illusion of blood dropping from the eye. I really like how messy it is as it appears you've cried blood all the time. The beautiful hearts and the ribbon are smeared with blood after a depressing cry. I think it is a way to symbolize a wedding broken up. It's like the woman has prepared for it, by putting her make-up, dress and veil. But it turns out the groom broke up for another one. And that makes a depressing bride, crying in tears of sorrow and depression. Truly good work, PixieCold. I hope you get more of this and I'm giving you five stars as it really shows how it can be.

Cool how this artist did all the artwork herself or included another person to help but I love the detail and time this artist must have spent and took out of their daily life to make this piece of living art on the face especially how they must've suffered because I can see in the eye the pain and the reflection that it was painful only a dedicated artist would suffer this pain for art such as this especially not only this one but all of the other arts and its interesting how her eye is always red and filled with pain it looks to me like th is person is crying blood out of her eyes cuz if you take the red paint and think its tears you can see the resemblance I THINK ARTIST DESRVES 5 STARS FOR DEDICATION

Not trying to be rude, but your entire critique is one long sentence with no punctuation?

Of course I was just trying to be helpful. A critique is also meant to be helpful and I feel it was hindered by this.
Really, no offense at all is meant. And if it did seem rude I am truly sorry.

I think these images from the artist are becoming a bit repetitive. The application of make-up is a little messy and almost looks just brushed and dotted on in a hurry. Although the idea is interesting, the series and/or look of each image is starting to blend. I feel like every other image from the set doesn't show off the best make-up application skill to the artist's full potential. If the idea is to have it look not so precise and unclean then I suppose my critique is merely an opinion. Perhaps the next set of images from the series would benefit from cleaner, well placed make-up with defined lines and intentional rough edges. I do really like when make-up has unclean lines but making that decision intentional is important to make it blend with the look.

That aside, the artist definitely has a unique take on ideas and more often than not, creates interesting photographs to showcase her work. I can see the trend of showing off make-up designs is growing big lately on dA and this artist is pushing the edges. I think with time she can only improve. I'm interested to see what she offers us in the future.

Yeah, usually clean lines on skin require a primer or foundation to start. Primers smooth the skin out so application becomes cleaner and neater, especially with foundations.

Beetnick82 In reply to sparkbearer [2012-10-04 02:06:52 +0000 UTC]

Hmm... Agreed with this critique. However, constructively, it seem as though the lack in definition on the lines comes from two major contributing factors.

The first is the surface used and the second is the medium. Skin is a tough canvas to work with. it has pores, wrinkles and hairs and requires preparation. I'm no make up artist, but I've seen similar effects on rougher grades of paper and canvas. I can just go and use a different piece of paper... But I assume that, with a model, you just have to get a foundation going first.

The second is the medium used. The white makeup looks to me as if it is prone to clumping. If I get that problem with paint, I add more moisture to the mix (water or oil respectively). Too much, and it becomes runny. But, the right amount makes it much easier and cleaner to work with.
