Gotta show some love for the warm-blooded critters! This is "Silk", a female white Doberman Pinscher belonging to a friend of mine, the same guy I buy rodents from, who also owns a lot of the snakes in my gallery that aren't my personal snakes. Yes, there is such a thing as a white Doberman; she's Leucistic, just like this Ball Python: [link] , the result of a recessive gene mutation. Her eyes are a sort of pale greenish-gray, not blue, though. I know there's been a lot of controversy over these dogs, with claims by the many people(including the Doberman Pinscher Club of American), that they are sickly and blind and neurotic, but I've known many such Dobies over the years, and I've yet to see one that fit that description. I've known more than one that lived well past the age of 12, which is pretty remarkable for ANY large-breed dog. Silk herself is five, and in great health. I love this dog like she was my own; she's just got such a wonderful personality. I often joke with her own that if he gets tired of looking at her, I'll be happy to take her off his hands, but I doubt seriously THAT is gonna happen anytime soon!pitbulllady

oh my goodness! ive never seen another person who has a white doberman!! i have one and her name is Gracie!! lol she does agility and its the funniest thing ever to a doberman do agility, a white one none the less! this one looks like a puppy still ^_^ mine isnt anymore, shes about six now! they are beautiful dogs!! At one point we had one of each color! blue, red, black, white, and tan! i love dobermans!

Actually, Silk is five years old, and quite a large Dobe at that. She has a new litter of pups right now, though I think only one is white. She has such a nice personality-a very good guard dog, but able to distinguish between who should and who should not be there, just as a Doberman should be able to. She can be very serious, but then turn about and act like a goofball the next moment!
I love it that your Dobe does agility, especially that so few large breeds compete in this sport, AND even more because she's white. So many people hate the white Dobes, claiming that they are "blind", "deaf", "retarded" "more prone to cancer" etc., and many Doberman breeders and show people advocate killing all the white ones, so that's why I enjoy hearing about white Dobes that do things to prove these people wrong!

exactly!! i hate it when people discriminate against a breed of dog, or by their color. we have all sorts of "abnormally colored" breeds. including our white doberman. we also have an all white German shepherd and an all black German shepherd. the only "normal" shepherd is Forrest (pictures are on my page of Forrest ^_^) I'll have to put some pictures up of our white doberman!!

She is gorgeous! I have known two white Dobbies myself and they were the sweetest dogs and in excellent health. It really is sad that these poor dogs are persecuted just b/c of color. Yet other animal species (like tigers and snakes) are practically worshiped if they are born white. Makes absolutely no sense to me...

I heard of them have health issues before..though I never belived all of them do..mainly deafness,skin problems....tho any dog can have health issues anyways... well that dog is really pretty,white dobies are quite rare,and I`ve never seen one irl

Bah, there's so much controversy over Melanistic and Leucistic critters. I think that all this comes from Ferrets and White Shepherds, who are some of the more common mammals to have signs of hearing loss and, sometimes, blindness. Not to say it can't pop up anywhere; my dad once owned a healthy Harlequin Great Dane named Sugar; she was mildly deaf, but was never mistreated or sick.
Now, I've seen the lighter varieties of the Dobers, but never a white one- she's gorgeous!
And, a side note, a friend of mine killed a Melanistic male Coyote near Munson- he's having it mounted and displayed at a ranger center, I do believe.

Wow! She's beautiful. I've never seen a white Dob before. She's just gorgeous. The guy who owns my old dog (since I live in an apt.) has a white pitbull he keeps hidden in the back yard (cos they're illegal in Miami) that has the most beautiful personality ever that completely dismisses the reps that pitbulls have. Soo...controversy = blah!

White dobermans usually have a lot of health problems because it isn't a normal color for the breed. I wish this one luck.
