Description After Alex (Alex ) and Ahktar (Ahktar - concept of modern chopping blade ) this is 3th concept of modern sword over traditional shape in this style. This time I remade probably most popular sword - katana from Japanese. All work is mine. Work has been made in 3ds max + vray as rendering engine. Completed in Photoshop.  Picture is bigger to see details.

So what do you think. Do you like it or not? tnx for comments if any. bye.

I also did:

Katana - Yuki
Spear - Valkyrie
Knife - Anansi - concept of modern knife
Knife 2 - Awha

It's definitely my favorite of the 3, especially the hilt section, which looks both comfortable and stylish. The only thing that looks a little bit off is the bevel section of the blade (i.e. the cutting section), which on a normal katana covers about 2/3rds of the blade's width, whereas here it only covers 1/3rd, making it look a little blunt.

lol I just checked it on net and you are right about that blade-cutting setion. I missed that somehow. so next time I will know.

probably. When I want to make name for some model  I check most popular names for some culture on net  and choose some of them.

An excellent take on a traditional look. Certainly looks like something a future samurai would use.

ever think of trying one that was basically 2 katana's back to back. making a slightly wider double side blade.

Great work, i like the details u worked out on the hilt. But i think long fights are sure not so easy with this much irritations under ur palm and fingers. so good gloves are needed to handle this beauty

Id like to see it in the scabbard.

peterku In reply to Stahlvogel [2016-05-28 13:17:13 +0000 UTC]

yea you are right it could be slippery in real world. therefore I used to add in description word "fantasy" when I do something crazy in my concepts

This...is...fucking...awesome.

I want this thing so bad. It looks like one of those sci-fi blades that"s like 5 atoms wide at the edge.

Future Samurai standard issue.

Bullet-Frog In reply to ??? [2016-05-27 21:26:07 +0000 UTC]

The handle is well designed and reflects many of the traits a typical Katana handle would have. However it doesn't look too comfortable as the sides of the hexagons are notably raised and would dig into your hands.
The blade is very nice as well.

peterku In reply to Bullet-Frog [2016-05-28 13:19:20 +0000 UTC]

tnx. yea. major lines of handle I took from real one and tried to make some recombination. I know about that uncomfortability. probably anything else then handle on real katana would be less confortable then real one.
