Description 2007

4" x 6 "

Watercolor with Nexus pen, gold and silver pens on vellum (not the best choice for water color, but I had one sitting around unfinished from the postcard contest.)

This one is obviously Amy Hooton inspired. Just practicing her unique style for the real work to enter into her contest. You can check that out here: [link]

This one looked like little abstract squids (...or octopus...or jellyfish) to me...plus tons of spirals, of course.

Those colours They're almost supra-psychedelic! And I've nurtured a fascination for cephalopods since childhood, so this was bound to appeal

Thanks! They are fascinating creatures. I am pleased with the colors on this one, as far as capturing their trueness. I seem to have a devil of time getting purples right (with my computer, scanner, and camera) without degrading the other colors.

WOW! When I saw this from afar, I thought it looked... slightly familiar. And then I saw you ref to me! Awesome colours Peggy and wonderful swirls and feeling. Can't wait to see the entry when it comes!

Yeah, it really a combo of our styles. My pen work in the back and then your watercolor and gold metallic...of course I had to throw in some silver pen, too. I had a hard time not making the metallic pens marks too thick. I am not sure if it is the size of the canvas, or the type of pen I was using. Or perhaps it is because I had NO patience and did not wait for the watercolor to dry..ha ha. Anyway, LOVE watercolor. Kind of got lost in creating it, and was up way late!

Thanks!!

You could try using gold gel pens. Less toxic and easier to get the details finer. I tend to paint a few paintings and then leave them over night. Gotta be patient to let it dry properly!
