Description Clontygora Court Tomb
Known locally as the "Kings Ring" this court tomb was built for
collective burial by a farming community as eary as 3500 BC. Potsherds found at this site point to a link with Portugal

They must have wanted their dead pretty much protected from something. Burials in mayan or in any other culture used stones as big as this. The most practical thing would be to just bury them the "usuall" way. But I guess that during winter that would have been nearly impossible.

The burials found in these places shows the bodies were cremated

Interesting. So they cremated them first, then they buried them inside this huge stones. I have always wondered why ancient people in Europe used to bury their dear dead, in other cultures, like american aboriginals, they never did that. Thanks for helping me learn a bit more.

I love megalithic monuments...unfortunately there are only few, terrible damaged ones in my cauntry. but there are a lot of mounds from celtic ages.

we had ovly uncomplet Kounovské Řady - lines of smaller and gigger stones and about undamaged 3 menhirs. These are only truly stone age buildings in my country. Others are celtic and not so impressiv like ´megalits.
