so, i'm 18 months late with my reply.

That was a long time ago, before my comeback, so I missed this. It's excellent, Otis. And I insist that you must try Blackbox - will make your creative life easier A fav!

...and i even won a screenshot contest with this one. [link]
the first time i ever participated in a contest. go figure.

well, thanks Pete, i'm glad you like it. it was indeed quite a long time ago. so long that i can't even really remember what it's like to work with XP. i just occasionally launch that old machine (maybe 5 or 6 times a year) to update the OS. i've made the switch to Mac OSX almost 2 years ago and only have a copy of Win7 installed there for my ongoing yet unfortunately decreasing activities and involvement with CD Art Display. i'm not even customizing my win7 system as much as i used to back in my winXP times anymore.

so, i appreciate your very high recommendations to use Blackbox, but chances are that i won't spend much time on customizing my 2 windows systems at any time soon.

anyways... thanks once again for your feedback, my friend!

Congratulations about your win, I didn't know. I know you are using Mac nowadays, but your setup did remind me of Blackbox elements. Anyway, if you ever decide to give it a try, let me know. I've not given up on you yet... And you are very welcome, you deserved every praise for this...

haha.. it's been a while since i've looked at it myself and now that you brought it back to my attention, i have to admit that i really miss my old winXP now.
thank you heaps for the fav, the feedback and for letting me reminisce of the old days, dude.

It's hard to believe that XP could look so good

OtisBee In reply to Y-N-1-F [2011-10-11 08:53:30 +0000 UTC]

well, for me the XP operating system is still the most customizable one. in fact, there isn't really a thing that can't be changed in winXP, and that's something i really miss in win7. just take the great StylerTB app for example. it provides an extremely cool way of having completely different explorer buttons, but sadly it can't be used in win7 anymore. in winXP there has been a plethora of very well made dark visual styles with little to no issues in terms of systemwide readability of the various skinned apps. in win7, dark styles are rather sparse (styles like "Dark Agility" being the amazing exceptions there), which to me is quite a pity, as i don't get the chance to feel as at home as i did in winXP before, if you know what i mean.

in short: XP has been a customizer's dream, imo. nearly anything was possible. win7 -on the other hand- is a great operating system, which is in many ways superior to its predecessors. i guess that compensates a bit for the lack of customizability.

anyways... thanks again for your appreciation, Jimmy!

I have to agree, totally. But, as you point out, Win7 is very stable and fast.

Hi Otis,

When you have more time, can you please make (more) desktop-icons en release them?
Because the (stikma) desk-icon's that you already made are so Stikma-tized

The stikma-Wall in a red color dip is surprisingly great.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

OtisBee In reply to muhda [2010-07-02 16:50:50 +0000 UTC]

absolutely .. and i'm quite surprised that i'm still using it myself.

stikma icons, huh? hmm.. i'll think about it.
what do you think would be the right size for a desktop icon?
48x48? or 64x64? or even the large 256x256 ones?
i've never made any, so i'm quite helpless here.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

muhda In reply to OtisBee [2010-07-04 00:30:25 +0000 UTC]

Hmm, I think 48x48 will be the right size to start with.
You can also release a mock-up, idea or preview of the icons so other deviants/friends can give you feedback.

i'm even more surprised that i'm still using that wall, because i usually prefer any blueish wallpaper over a red one.

Hey mate, you haven't said which OS this is for... is it for windows 7? If so are all the features compatable with 64bit?

PS: Is there a install-guide? - Never tried installing something like this.
Cheers.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

OtisBee In reply to vorno [2010-06-29 12:56:17 +0000 UTC]

oh, sorry .. that's a setup in Win XP.
unfortunately there's no installer to transform your system/desktop all in one go.
however, all of the listed programs and apps are fully compatible with Win7 and i'm pretty sure for the 64bit version as well.
at least i know for sure for all the stardock products (WindowBlinds, ObjectDock, CursorFX and IconX) and i can guarantee the compatibility of CAD in Win7 64bit.
since Rainmeter and Yahoo!Widgets are major software apps too, i would be surprised if they wouldn't work in W7 64bit either.

nevertheless, i'm afraid that you'd have to install each app and skin manually then.
sorry

thanks for your fav, tho.

i'm glad you like it.
