And a tiny bit of explanation, as this is an illustration to a story that only exists in my brain.

Uther discovers that Merlin is a sorceror. Normally he wouldn't hesitate, but he knows how close Merlin is to Arthur, and it will be easier to take action when Arthur is out of the way. When Arthur rides off with a few knights to check out reports of bandit activity on the borders, Uther decides it's the ideal opportunity to drug Merlin so that he can't use magic, and then burn him at the stake. However Arthur's horse goes lame and he returns early...

Oh, thank you, I am very flattered.  After a couple of false starts (I am not good at anything technology) I just found it.  It's too late to read it tonight, as work tomorrow, but I will read it over the weekend.  I'm so glad you liked the painting. x

Well Arthur saves him, and stands up for him against his father, so that's not too sad.

The series did waste the magic reveal     They could have spent a whole series dealing with how Arthur came to terms with it, and getting magic made legal in the kingdom etc etc  Such a wasted opportunity.

Yeah, I think it would have been even stronger series if they revealed it sooner. God, it would have been so much fun seeing Merlin and Arthur fight together.

That would have been amazing, seeing Arthur and Excalibur and Merlin and his magic working side by side.  The adventures with them learning to work together, and Arthur learning how capable Merlin is, and Merlin having to learn how to be less secretive...it would have been wonderful, the writers missed such a great chance.

Yeah it would have been the greatest fantasy series EVER!  
So, so sad that they ended it the other way. Arthur dying, Merlin miserable for thousand years, and all the fans crying.

Thanks very much.  I'm really glad that you liked it.  (At the time I did dither about whether to put in a reflection or not, wondering whether I could do it or whether his armour would just look like it was weird and orange...but I decided to go for it.)

hehehe, I've actually just uploaded the lineart for the Cover I made for my own story that's going along these lines...only no Uther, random mobbing villagers, Arthur is too late, and the shocking event that follows is going to change the fate of Camelot itself... There is a reason Merlin is known as Emrys among the druids...
