Xiazamm:
Emissary of the Immortals, Champion of Earth

Thousands of years ago, a man would be born who would acquire the ability to commune with the immortals. the mortals were losing touch with the gods they used to worship , as they had serious matters of their own to attend. A meeting was held concerning how to keep their names within the mouths of mortals whilst not compromising their attention. Already a great mage in his own right, they decided that would be granted the ability to channel a fraction of the power of any of them into himself. he would be able to use multiple portions of different immortals at a time, making him a force to be reckoned with. He would deal with the Agents of the Enemy on Earth, while the assembled immortals dealt with The Enemy head on. He would eventually be recognized as the emissary of the gods. after the decision in the Hall of Immortals to focus their energies on their own affairs, their Champion would use his ability to act as a conduit to channel abilities from the immortals and even sometimes extraordinary mortals to carry out his missions. He did many great works. once, after saving the lives of many, he was approached by a beautiful woman who chose to reward him with her feminine..."gifts". Eventually he succumbed to her charms and she began to lay seeds in his mind that he was as great as the Immortals and deserved a place amongst them. Unannounced, he approached the assemblage at the Hall and demanded to be recognized. The Immortals scoffed at his hubris and that dismissal was all he needed. He attacked the assemblage and they were astounded that he would dare do such a thing they fought back...more so that he was standing his ground against such a powerful group. during the battle, he was able to break free from the spell he was under. even though he had broken free of the enchantment, the immortals were retaliating in full force, and he found himself defending his life with all he had . eventually, he was taken down, but since they freely gave him access to their power, they could not revoke it. instead, they revoked his ability to act on their behalf or raise a hand against them ever again. He retained his abilities as a conduit, but he could not funnel the power into his own body. To fulfill his destiny as the planet's champion, he decided to use his ability to funnel the power of the gods into another mortal. The Persian god of Wisdom and Prophetic Revelation, Ahura Mazda revealed to the magi that he would eventually be betrayed as he had just betrayed them. Xiazamm then sought out a champion of his own...

Zatara: Giovanni "John" Zatara
Master Magician

I based my manga version of Zatara on the character, Zark from the Cirque de Soliel presentation Zarkana. I envisioned this version as more of a "gypsy" circus performer, than a traditional clean cut stage magician. He pretends to be a mere parlor trick illusionist to cover his very real mystic abilities. He will have a similar troupe of travelling performers (like Zark) who are based in a roving carnival called Zatarcanum. He lost his wife years ago, and went missing in an attempt to retrieve her soul from damnation, leaving behind a daughter...

Zatanna: Zatanna Zatara
Magi in training, illusionist, carnival performer

The daughter of the Great Zatara last saw her father after training a young noble from the Goth A'hm prefecture in his escape techniques. Her mother, Sindel, had been missing for three years prior to that. After her father disappeared as well, she ran away from the carnival and lived on her own. without Zatara, the carnival eventually faded into obscurity. on Zatanna's 16th birthday, she received a gift in the mail. when she opened it, she saw her father's red bowtie that her mother had given him, and that she used to wear in her hair as a child. she returned to the carnival and began training to use her powers. she performs as an illusionist to earn a living while attempting to master her growing abilities. although the members of the Zatarcanum troupe help her, none of them are strong enough to help her fully realize her mystical potential. After having a dream (that she was convinced was an attempt by her father to communicate with her), she went to seek out his missing spellbook, The Book of Zatara, to try master her skills, and find and rescue her father.

Witchfire: Reichiko Kaidan
Witch, control over elemental magic.

A young model that worked the same circuit as Jiwe Mari(Vixen), Joan Dale(Ms. America), and (Mirror Mistress), Reichiko had an assistant that promised her a way to become the next number one model. when she realized that her assistant was part of a coven, and that way involved a human sacrifice, she tried to help the intended victim get away. the coven chased them and, when cornered, Reichiko was able to tap into her mystical abilities. By speaking certain mystical keywords, she can access the elements to grant her various gifts such as:
Featherlight- Gravity- Allows her to defy gravity
Stonestrong- Earth- allows her to increase her density tenfold
Windswift- Air- Grants her increased speed
Lakesmooth-Water- can place others in stasis while in physical contact
Airthin- Air- Can manipulate air to the point of extracting it from a person's immediate vicinity
Icepure- Ice- can create shields of ice
Flamebright- Fire- blinding light emits from her body

Tala:
Combat sorceress; Maleficist

The mysterious final member of the group that tried to stop the Teen Titan, Raven's mystical rampage. [link] Tala was approached by Amethyst to help craft new mystical talisman, along with Zatanna and Witchfire, to keep Karasu's demonic heritage in check. When their attempt fails, they go on a quest to locate Arion, The Lord of Atlantis to help them craft ones that will succeed. Based on her JLU appearance as well as an image of a sorceress I found on the net.

-As The Champion, Xiazamm thinks about the abilities he wants to borrow from the immortals then speaks a mystic keyword that is formed from the first initial of each of their names. the word changes with each configuration, as do his powers.
-Xiazamm's design comes from an image created by Japanese artist, Shunya Yamashita.
-It takes Xiazamm 100 years to locate Teth Adam, during which time he is frequently plagued by his demonic children, Blaze and Satannus.
-Tala is part-owner in the nightclub, Bewitched.
-Tala is secretly a member of The Dark Circle, a group of dark magic practitioners including: Rebecca Ravenwind, Klarion, the Witch-Boy, Sargon the Sorcerer, and Felix Faust...Tala's mentor.
-Tala infiltrates the Convocation of Magi that convene to find a way to deal with Raven's demonic rampage. When she is discovered, she flees with some of the necessary items. She will be replaced on the team by the urban mage, Traci 13. Traci is essential in locating Arion, with whose help, they forge new talisman for Karasu.
-Tala is a Maleficist, a user of Maleficium (Dark Sorcery).
-Witchfire will discover that she is a homunculus, a fully formed, artificial human created through alchemy. In time, she will discover the nature of her origins and their ties to Tala.
-Witchfire will eventually team up with Earth-bound Manhunter, Paul Kirk.
- Zatanna's design is based on the Ame-Comi version of the character.
- Zatanna owns a mansion called Shadowcrest, in which she keeps a vast library of magical knowledge, as well as an arsenal of powerful relics.
