Description
First surveyed in 2068 by the GENESES corporation, the strategic location of Capricon as a core of expansion into the Serpens-Stream area ensured colonization rights were tied in fierce diplomatic negotiations until eventually the Pacific Trade Zone and European Confederacy purchased the colonization rights for two continents each in 2070, after which the in-depth prospecting process began. Officially two separate colonies sharing little but a planet in 2072, the long recovery period mandated by the three months colonists and specialists had to spend hibernating in microgravity for the duration of the flight meant that, in practice, both colonies were completely interdependent from day one and would remain so for many years; although the surface gravity of 1.46 G is crushing compared to Earth, and the atmosphere is thin by human standards, the shear length of the trip put the recovery from muscle atrophy at nearly a year either way; longer than any other colony at the time. Despite these hurdles, Capricon attracted a large number of colony enrollees in it's early years, official records show that nearly 65% of colonists were volunteers, idealists and visionaries from all social classes who strove for a new beginning in a retinase-red paradise teeming with life under the blue light of an alien sun and four moons; two larger than Luna.
At the early stages of colonial development progress was rather unimpeded and swift; by 2075 an orbital elevator connecting the continent Expanse with the moon Sycorax had been completed, and major industries that had blossomed across the planetary system included the manufacture of advanced electronics and weaponry, an extensive agri-science sector, the synthesizing of antimatter for starship fuel and production of FTL fuel to further extend the reach of human exploration and exploitation. Relations between the colony and Earth started suffering during the late 2080ies when the European Confederacy had started taking increasingly drastic and at times authoritarian actions to counteract the widespread havoc from unpredictable weather patterns and ecological collapse on Earth; subverting the very democracy that the colonists were working to save from within. When The Insurgencies hit Earth and the UN, the Capriconian Colonial Administration was one of the first to rebel against their motherlands; although the insurgency officially didn't break out until 2098, the colonial administration had been openly insubordinate ever since the Eiris Incident in 2094, with the European Confederacy and Pacific Trade Zone simply lacking the political clout to engage in any military action until the UN decided to intervene and retake control of humanity's rogue colonies. Although The Insurgencies were relatively short and bloodless, some of the most brutal battles raged in Capriconian cities, and both sides payed dearly for every metre held or retaken. When the First Colonial Wars were ignited by Capriconian terrorists in 2142 through the destruction of the USAF Daedalus, the nuclear device was provided by agents of the Capriconian government, and even though Capricon was eventually forced into surrender and revealing the encryption codes of their separatist allies after 11 years of sustained warfare, fighting continued on the continents Invicta and Taeru for two years after United Nations Peacekeeping Command had begun deploying nuclear weapons against Capriconian cities, leading to even closer control and subjugation of the colony by the UN and nations of Earth. With the vast resources and strategically valuable position, colonial development continued regardless of this animosity, and by the time the Second Colonial Wars broke out in 2182 Capricon had the population and industry to fight Earth to a standstill after the grueling attrition past the intermediate worlds, and was able to force an array of concessions onto the European Confederacy and Pacific Trade Zone in the UN-mediated armistice; when the Contact Proxies began in 2323 a Capricon emboldened by technological and industrial aid from the sobrai wasted no time joining Eiris and Jotunheim on an interstellar campaign to liberate other human core worlds with strong pro-separatist pro-democratic sentiments such as Babylon, Serrio, and Serenity, and spent the following decades in on-and-off skirmishes against human autocracies and planting rebellions and secession among other worlds, with the capriconian sister republics Tauris, Scorpio, and Krestav having established their independence from Earth, the UN, and their motherlands in the last century.
Although militaristic by the standards of most democracies, Capricon has quickly become a fixture in interstellar politics and military development, and has been engaged in multiple joint-colony projects across Alliance space, likely to become a full member within the next two decades and fully dislodge itself from the EUN's expanded sphere.
Tidally locked to it's closest moon, Sycorax, and having a rotational axis of 15 degrees, the continent and province of Expanse, along with the capital city Port Sytamis, never truly experience night for most of the year, as the intense moonlight from Sycorax reaches nearly 7% the luminosity of Celest, which due to the logarithmic nature of most organic visual organs is experienced as about a third, or the same as early dawn. With a thin atmosphere and incredibly long day-night cycle at 153 hours, the nights of this world are long, calm, and cold, with the average temperature on the night side being a chilly 5 degrees Celsius regardless of latitude, which has pressed all native life to evolve a resistance to the changes in temperature by altering their metabolism or reducing to less active states. Capricon's careful planning and long tradition of mindful development has lead to a world that, although evidence of human colonization is omnipresent, largely has prevented the ecological damage seen on world with similar populations, and over a fifth of the landmasses, and quarter of the seas, are part of various nature preserves. With an atmosphere containing chlorine and ethylene oxide, as well as the harsh UV of an F-type star and an aluminium-heavy biosphere based in dextro-amino acids, the Capriconians have made use of genetic therapies and genomic alterations as part of their extensive public healthcare machinery over the last three centuries to harden their respiration and metabolism, gradually becoming a distinct subspecies easily recognized by their black irises and double set of gill-like slits at the base of the throat, adaptations to protect their retinas from UV and internal organs from corrosive chemical gases.
Capricon is governed by the Capriconian Directorial Republic, a federal-style distributed parliamentary democracy where both legislative and executive authority is divided at the provincial level; the Parliament has its seats organized after the relative populations of the provinces, while the Directory, the executive branch, has one minister from each province and an additional 14 undersecretaries each affiliated with a specific ministry acting as a sort of privy council for matters affecting the entire state, such as military, orbital infrastructure, or foreign affairs.
Capricon is a Projector (client state with diplomatic and economic independence) under the EUN; known as Capricon Colony.

Travel Advisory: While the average atmospheric chlorine and ethylene oxide concentrations are not immediately dangerous to known sapient species, prolonged exposure can cause severe if treatable damage to lungs, gills, and eyes. The use of rebreather masks is recommended for all individuals without cybernetic or biological respiratory alterations when outside climate-controlled structures. In addition, a large fraction of Capricons predatory fauna make use of toxins, pyrochemicals, infectious barbs, and bioelectric bursts to immobilize prey at range; the use of ident-apps or a local guide is advised when traveling through nature, and a respectful distance should be kept from any creatures that display agitated behavior. Capriconian socialized healthcare services partially covers tourists and visitors: all urgent and emergency care will be provided free of charge, but non-citizens will be billed for the treatment cost of minor injuries and recovery.
INFORMATION BULLETIN 2445-07-05: After the capture of a UNA intelligence agent aboard the L5-3 Fold Station last week, defense undersecretary Sato has enacted Threat Condition Two system-wide. All forces of the Capriconian Directorial Navy operates in expectation of imminent attack against their defense grids and groundside bases. Any unauthorized entry within 100km of ground installations or 1000km of orbital facilities will be treated as hostile. Citizens of the United North America, African Union, and European Confederacy are encouraged to postpone any planned visits until the situation has been resolved.

Authors note: As usual, if anyone who actually speaks Japanese has suggestions of better translations or transliteration, please leave them below. (Please note though that I've decided to limit Capriconian Japanese to Katakana and Hiragana for worldbuilding reasons.)
Also, when I describe them as a "federal-style directorial republic" I do not mean "like the USA", but rather "like Switzerland".

The mass relay looking things are the Capriconian Directorial Navy's fold weapons, 72 in total distributed in 18 clusters of 4 each. Canonically, each cluster floats out at the Lagrange points of the system, constantly guarding against foreign invasion with their FTL weapons placed far beyond effective targeting range from the gravity wells using targeting data relayed by forward observers, but this isn't drawn to scale.

EDIT: 2021-06-10: updated picture to better depict capriconian geological and city layout.

Hello:

Β This planet had quite an eventful story since colonized, too bad because of the ecological collapse, that seems to be too much common everywhere humanity goes to .

shit, did I misspell? I specifically meant to say that Capricon's ecology is not collapsing, but is doing very well (at least compared to Earth).

Hello:

Β Well, that was the interprettion I got for your writting, so maybe you can recheck. As for mispelling, I go those much more than you

I have now rephrased it. And that's okay, languages are hard.

yes, non-native languages tend to be hard, especially those very different from your mother tongue.

And the worst part is: Most people that see our artworks speak that language XD

At least english is a possible-to-learn language.

That is true, I?ve heard about an african language in which one letter is made by a sound I know not everybody can make

Neframe In reply to Chiletrek [2019-12-12 19:15:31 +0000 UTC]

yeah, learning sounds not typically used in your own language can be quite difficult. But at least we've got writing.

It's something indeed! . But that is a constant problem, what I mean is that I also want to post writtings but I don't have the time or will to write them in 2 languages

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Neframe In reply to Chiletrek [2019-12-12 21:38:46 +0000 UTC]

that's a decision only you can make, but if you decide to upload them in Spanish only I'll give them a try.

Chiletrek In reply to Neframe [2019-12-12 23:09:44 +0000 UTC]

At least someone will, thanks! . But what would you do? just in english?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Neframe In reply to Chiletrek [2019-12-12 23:25:04 +0000 UTC]

Well, everything I upload is english-only unless there's worldbuilding reasons not to; most swedes are proficient in english and I speak it almost as fluently as swedish.

Chiletrek In reply to Neframe [2019-12-12 23:29:58 +0000 UTC]

That helps indeed! I think the best bet, for me, would be to upload things like writtings in english and just keep personal notes and ideas in spanish as I develop them.
